The newest update to Among Us increased the game's lobby from 10 players up to 15, creating a new game experience for returning players and making it easier than ever to play with large groups of friends. Already, debates have cropped up regarding whether more or less players is better for the game - but the variety offered by 15-player lobbies makes it a clear improvement over the old 10-player option.
The new lobby size was added as part of Among Us' third anniversary along with additional crewmate colors and a new art style. According to the roadmap Innersloth revealed during 2021's Summer Game Fest, other large changes such as a Hide and Seek game mode and the fifth map will be coming in the near future. It appears that although Among Us has declined in popularity since its 2020 rise to prominence, the developers are still hard at work trying to improve the experience for fans.
As a social deduction game, Among Us is at its best when played with friends. The game's massive surge in popularity last year arguably resulted because of lockdowns placed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, allowing for virtual play with friends when many people were unable to meet up with them in any other manner. Enabling more people to play at once is a smart move for the game, but it isn't the only reason why 15-player lobbies are an all-around improvement to Among Us.

When the game's latest map, the Airship, was first released, many began to consider it the most difficult map in Among Us. A large reason for this was because of how expansive it is - it takes longer for players to find one another, which makes the game particularly difficult for Imposters. Now that the amount of players has been increased by up to 50%, however, it should be much easier to run into crewmates regardless of which map is being used. While some have pointed out that 15 players might be almost too much, making Among Us more crowded and chaotic than before, it should also make it more difficult for Imposters to successfully kill crewmates without being seen.
15-player lobbies should also help provide more incentive for players to make use Among Us' three-Imposter game setting, which previously was scarcely used due to how easy it was for Imposters to make kills with so few crewmates. In this regard, the update seems like it will prove to allow for more freedom when it comes to playstyles. It also arguably makes it more fun to play with large groups or in servers - now that more people can join at once, it's more viable to have an Among Us game night with friends. Ultimately, 15-player lobbies will balance the game and help introduce more variety, potentially increasing both the longevity and popularity of Among Us.
