Zac Efron Starring In Three Men And A Baby Movie Remake For Disney+

Zac Efron will star in an upcoming remake of the hit 1987 film Three Men and a Baby for Disney+. The former teen heartthrob has slowly but steadily been in the process of broadening his career by taking on a variety of new and different roles.

Originally quite dedicated to the Disney brand, Efron owes his early career to the Mouse House, thanks to his role as Troy Bolton in the High School Musical franchise. As Efron’s profile gained significant traction throughout the early years of the 2000s, his appeal began to grow beyond the teen demographic he’d appealed to initially. Fans have watched the 32-year-old grow up on-screen, and recent efforts like serial killer biopic Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile – in which Efron played Ted Bundy, as well as Netflix series Down to Earth With Zac Efron, have proven that Efron’s career goals involve more than just highlighting his looks and physique. At the same time, however, Efron does seem partial to comedy, having built up a substantial portion of his on-screen resume with the genre.

For this reason, the former High School Musical star’s next project offers both the on-screen maturity he craves, as well as the opportunity to stay rooted in comedy. THR has reported that Efron will star in an upcoming remake of Three Men and a Baby. The new film will be made exclusively for Disney’s subscription streaming service, Disney+. At present, no director is attached, and Efron appears to be the sole confirmed cast member, however, there is currently a script. The original 1987 film starred Tom Selleck, Steve Guttenberg, and Ted Danson, and was a major hit for Disney.

Three Men and a Baby told the story of three New York City bachelors as they struggled to take on the challenge of caring for an abandoned baby. Little by little, the three men come to relish the idea of being parents – so much so that a sequel, Three Men and a Little Lady was released three years after the original. Audiences fell in love with the on-screen presence of Selleck, Guttenberg, and Danson, and it’s little wonder that Disney decided it was time for a remake – given that all three of the original film’s stars are unrecognizable to most current audiences. Efron will certainly help reel in a certain amount of interest, but exactly how far his charm goes will likely be mostly dependent on who else Disney casts alongside him.

As nothing is presently known about how closely the new film’s plot will follow that of the original, there’s ample room for conjecture. Fans of the original will, of course, want to see a remake stay reasonably faithful to the source, but it’s also clear that much has changed since 1987. Disney would do well to include a diverse cast this time around, allowing actors who weren’t given opportunities in the ’80s to be front and center in a new incarnation of Three Men and a Baby.
