Godfall Editions & Pre-Order Bonuses Revealed Alongside Boss Trailer

With next-gen console information almost entirely out in the open, launch titles like Godfall are starting to reveal their own release specifics. Releasing exclusively for PlayStation 5 on the console side and the Epic Game Store on PC, Godfall is a looter slasher where players strap on various "Valorplate" armor sets and engage in stylish melee combat. The game is set to buck the trend of recent loot games by focusing on a single campaign rather than an ongoing service element and foregoing microtransactions.

Even so, the inspirations from games like Destiny are evident. A team of three futuristic armored warriors venturing into unknown sci-fi worlds is pretty much the default template for a video game released in 2020. Godfall attempts to set itself apart from the pack by focusing not on fancy firearms but on fancy footwork via its weapons-based combat. Players will be able to combine five different weapons with twelve styles of Valorplate armor, leading to a whole host of variety amongst the combinations. Players will also take on over ninety different enemies, which is about eighty-five more than in the last AAA loot-based game to hit the market.

In tandem with launch info, Gearbox Publishing has released a new combat trailer for Godfall showing even more of the melee action players can expect this holiday. In the trailer, the cover star in the lion armor wields a sword and shield in impressive faction, including borrowing some ricochet strategies from Captain America. Another warrior dashes and dodges around incoming strikes while carrying a gigantic hammer, emitting a shockwave whenever they strike the ground below. The game's world and its inhabitants all exude color, taking advantage of next-gen visual fidelity capture a viewer's attention, especially when watching the trailer in all its intended 4K glory.

If they're interested in the new trailer, players can procure their copy of Godfall now and get a small pre-order bonus for their trouble. In fact, Borderlands fans interested in the game may want to grab it ASAP, as the pre-order pack contains the sword wielded by Zer0 from Borderlands 2. Other pre-order bonuses include four cosmetic skins for Valorplates, including one that differs depending on whether players are playing on PC or PS5. The game's standard edition is going with the now-standard $60 price point, but Gearbox is also offering an $80 Deluxe Edition that includes an unnamed expansion releasing in 2021. Players can also get all that and more in the Ascended Edition for $90, which includes more exclusive cosmetic upgrades.

As more and more gameplay of Godfall hits the web, more and more players are seemingly won over on the potential this looter slasher contains. While initially written off as "just another Destiny," the vow to forgo microtransactions and other service game shenanigans may serve to boost the game's reputation in the short term. Of course, publishers have gone back on similar promises in the past, and Gearbox is no stranger to exploiting a popular game with a pile of add-ons. Players will just have to see if Godfall will retain its honor or fall in line and seek out a quick buck.
