Recently released images from Raya & the Last Dragon teases as-yet unseen moments of the film, including original locations and a new look at some of the characters. The latest original film from Walt Disney Animation Studios, the hotly anticipated adventure follows Raya (Kelly Marie Tran), a tenacious young woman who has trained to be a “guardian of the dragon gem.” In a quest to restore peace to her world, she seeks out the last dragon, Sisu (Awkwafina), and sets out to restore Sisu’s powers in order to save the kingdom of Kumandra.
In doing so, Raya must traverse all five lands of Kumandra -- one of which can be seen in a new image released by Entertainment Weekly. The photo depicts Raya’s visit to the "floating market" of Talon. The warrior strikes a precarious pose as she’s caught "in the middle of a really cool action scene," director Don Hall explained to the outlet.
Another image, which also appears to be set in Talon, was released by Total Film magazine. In it, Raya faces off with the "thieving toddler Noi and her band of Ongis," characters previously teased on Disney Investor Day. Hall told EW that Noi "runs a little con game in town" with the Ongis (described as "fantasy creatures") before falling into Raya’s crew.
Fans can expect a new Raya and the Last Dragon trailer to drop soon, one which will hopefully show off more of the realms of Heart, Talon, Fang, Spine, and Tail and the "distinctive flair" of each region, as promised by the film’s producer Osnat Shurer. Each land was inspired by different Asian cultures, so audiences may spot some familiar elements among the fantastical world.
