Indie developer Grimbart Tales has announced a release window for a brand new platformer called ITORAH, which is set to release on Steam later this year. This Nintendo Game Boy-inspired game is a beautifully hand-painted experience that merges the look and feel of retro gaming with the modern gaming power of current computer systems.
The creator of the new game, Grimbart Tales, is a small development team, with ITORAH serving as the studio's debut title. This beautiful game has been in development for a few years now, going up on Steam back in September of 2019 for users to add to their wishlists. The developer’s social media has been uploading screenshots, sneak peeks and updates for ITORAH for some time now, keeping fans who are interested in the development of the title informed on the game’s progress over the last year or so.
ITORAH is heavily inspired by the look and feel of games from the Game Boy era, taking that aesthetic and running with it. The team at Grimbart Tales has adapted an art style indicative of older gaming graphics with smooth animation and deep colors to bring to life a new setting called Nahucan. As shown in the trailer, hosted on Assemble Entertainment's YouTube page, players will take on the role of the titular protagonist, who must confront a looming evil through a sidescrolling platformer with diverse combat encounters and the help of new friends found along the way. The journey won’t be easy, as the game's difficulty will ramp up as players progress through the levels. Fans will need all the help they can get to save the land and take on the ancient gods who have threatened to ruin it all.
Along with a stunning art style, the team has also worked hard to bring an enormous amount of life to the 2D side-scroller, bringing over 200 unique animations to the game. Each of the environments has been hand-painted by the art team as well; the scenery is inspired by South and Central American landscapes, as well as influences from Mesoamerican culture.
Players will be able to unravel the dark mystery threatening the land of Nahucan later this year. It is not yet known if any console releases are planned for this new title; for now, PC is the only confirmed release platform for the game. More information about ITORAH is sure to be released as it gets closer to the end of the year, along with the eventual official release date for the platformer.
ITORAH will release on Windows PC, through Steam, sometime in 2021.
