The latest photos from the set of Shazam: Fury of the Gods reveal Helen Mirren in her full costume as the movie's villain, Hespera. Filming for the upcoming DCEU flick has been underway for quite a while now, with various images from production making their way online. The latest from the list offers the first look at the prolific actress sporting her outfit for the much-anticipated blockbuster.
After the success of the first Shazam! film, director David F. Sandberg reunites with Zachary Levi and Asher Angel who play Shazam and his kid alter-ego Billy Batson for the sequel. The original movie was a hit for both critics and fans, earning $366 million at the global box office against a production budget of just $80-100 million. With the superhero now established in the DCEU, Warner Bros. is going bigger for Fury of the Gods in more ways than one, as proven by the ensemble that has been assembled for the blockbuster. With a mix of seasoned actors and rising stars, there's a lot to look forward to in the new project.
That said, arguably one of the most anticipated elements of Fury of the Gods is Mirren's introduction to the DCEU as the villain Hespera. Now, thanks to Just Jared (via AjepArt), snaps of the great actress in her comic book costume have been released online. Check them out below:
Since there's no context provided for the images so it's difficult to say what's happening here, but in the scene, at least with what's shown in the snaps, she's having a meal with Shazam! What makes it trickier to predict Mirren's involvement in Fury of the Gods is that Hespera doesn't have a clear counterpart from the DC comics. But, it's been revealed that she's the antagonistic daughters of Greek god Atlas and that she's sisters with Lucy Liu and Rachel Zegler's respective characters. That said, it's still unclear where their loyalties lie as they go up against Shazam and his family of superheroes. Mirren is clearly wearing a practical suit, and based on the other set images that have leaked for the movie, it seems like most characters in the blockbuster will be the same.
With Shazam: Fury of the Gods still almost two years away from hitting theaters, it might take a while before Warner Bros. reveals more information about the mysterious Hespera and her sisters. That said, Sandberg has been very clever in terms of battling spoilers, taking it upon himself to reveal official details for the sequel instead of waiting for leaks to happen. As filming continues for the blockbuster, it's not outside the realm of possibility that more snaps will pop up online, potentially given the public an idea of what to expect from the movie.
