Warning: contains spoilers for Amazing Spider-Man #67!
The real origin of Spider-Man's sister is about to be revealed, but Teresa already suspects she's a robot created to torture her brother. In 2014, Spider-Man's world turned upside-down when everyone's favorite wall-crawler learned he wasn't an only child after all. Peter's parents, Richard and Mary, were CIA agents who kept the existence of their daughter secret, dying in the line of duty shortly after her birth. Teresa Parker ultimately decided to join the family business, becoming a master-spy herself.
That career choice ultimately led to her crossing paths with Peter, and the two gradually bonded, teaming up on a few heroic adventures to save the world, despite the fact Teresa is a little more comfortable with morally gray tactics than her brother. More recently, Nick Spencer's Amazing Spider-Man run has seen Teresa return, now focused on locating the Chameleon. The reasons for her near-obsession with getting to the Chameleon have been something of a mystery - until Amazing Spider-Man #67, by Nick Spencer, Marcelo Ferreira, and Carlos Gomez.
Teresa finally tracks the Chameleon down in a maximum security prison on the Symkarian border with Latveria, and the issue reveals she has learned of one of Chameleon's old tricks. Years ago, Harry Osborn had the Chameleon torture Peter Parker by creating android doppelgangers of his parents, who returned to Peter's life. But, as the Chameleon correctly deduces, when Teresa first heard of this incident she felt something deep within her. "You tried to just brush past it at the time, but ever since, you can't let it go," the Chameleon taunts. "You want to know if you're like them." It quickly becomes clear he's right, and that Teresa is terrified she isn't Peter's true sister, but some kind of fake created to torment him.

Nick Spencer appears to be preparing to alter Teresa Parker's origin, and it's easy to see why; she is something of an awkward fit for Spider-Man's world, and the retcon that originally introduced her happened in a book which many readers assumed was out of continuity. It's possible Chameleon's taunting is a fake-out and that Teresa will shortly be confirmed as Peter's biological sister, but given her relative lack of familiarity to fans and the clumsiness of her introduction into Spider-Man canon, it's equally likely that Teresa is heading for a new origin, whether as an android or something stranger. The notorious continuity rewrite of "One More Day" actually means the '90s story of Peter's android parents can't have played out as fans remember it - something Spencer is exploring through other strands peof the comic story - so rooting Teresa in this story line seems like a particularly unusual decision.
Still, the Chameleon is a master manipulator. He's not above spinning a yarn, particularly given Teresa is holding a gun to his head throughout this conversation. "Everything both of us have done," the Chameleon continues, "our entire lives, was leading to this moment. This reunion." As Chameleon introduces Teresa to the Finisher - an obscure villain he claims has the answers she seeks - it's clear the next issue (Amazing Spider-Man #68) will be packed with revelations, and one way or the other, this story will redefine the origin of the woman who believed she was Peter Parker's sister.
