Space Jam 2 Clip Features Porky Pig In A Rap Battle | Screen Rant

Warner Bros. has released a new clip from Space Jam: A New Legacy seeing Porky Pig engaging in a rap battle with Don Cheadle’s Al-G rhythm. The long-awaited live-action/animated sequel to 1996’s Space Jam starring Michael Jordan was trapped in development purgatory for over two decades. Perhaps understanding the original’s nostalgic appeal, Jordan turned down the opportunity to return and producers have struggled to find a superstar replacement ever since.

LeBron James signed on to the Space Jam sequel back in 2014; however, due to a revolving door of creatives and the COVID-19 pandemic, its release date was repeatedly pushed. Like Jordan before him, Space Jam: A New Legacy, which releases simultaneously on HBO Max and in theaters on July 16, follows the NBA player being pulled into the WB universe (by an A.I. this time) and challenged to win a basketball game with the help of the still-undisciplined Looney Tunes led by Bugs Bunny.

With just only a few weeks until its release, Cartoon Network has released a sneak peak of Space Jam: A New Legacy. The new clip sees Daffy Duck encourage Porky Pig Aka “Notorious P.I.G.” to rap against Don Cheadle’s antagonist, AI G. Rhythm. Check out the clip below:

After all this time, Space Jam: A New Legacy looks to up the ante on everything the original did so well; including its soundtrack—which also included Looney Tunes raps. The original soundtrack featured a Bugs Bunny rap called “Buggin.” Unfortunately for Space Jam: A New Legacy, that song was written by Shawn Carter, whose known by the masses as Jay-Z. Carter wrote the track alongside Oscar-nominated composer, James Newton Howard, who also wrote Space Jam’s score. While Notorious P.I.G. does have some bars, it’s hard to live up to “Buggin.”

Space Jame: A New Legacy is pulling from every corner of WB’s library; in addition to the Looney Tunes, the trailers/clips have teased the worlds of the DC movies, Mad Max, and The Matrix. Hardcore fans of the original have been put off by the CGI depictions of some of the Looney Tunes members—something that is evident in the clip featuring Porky Pig’s rap. With so many apparent pop culture references and different approaches to beloved characters, it’ll be interesting to see if the filmmakers stick the landing. Ideally, it will be an entertaining film that at the very least delights children, and perhaps can make viewers believe they can dunk from half court.
