Warning: contains a preview for Amazing Spider-Man #71!
In a new preview for Marvel Comics' upcoming Amazing Spider-Man #71, Peter Parker's classic catchphrase is twisted and turned against him by his darkest foe, Kindred. Recent issues have seen Spider-Man in the midst of the Sinister War, with two rival villain teams pitted against one another while also going after Spidey himself. All of this is the result of careful planning and orchestration by none other than Kindred himself, though he seems to be blaming Parker for his animosity.
In previous issues of Amazing Spider-Man, Kindred has revealed himself as a demonic version of Harry Osborn, hellbent on torturing Peter Parker. For the better part of three years, Kindred has been interfering with Peter's life, asserting control over his villains and steering him towards the dark endgame currently playing out in Sinister War and The Amazing Spider-Man.
With the Sinister Six (led by Doctor Octopus) and Savage Six (led by the Vulture) clashing in Secret War #1, the final stage of Kindred's revenge on Peter Parker has begun. As Spider-Man brawls with both teams in this new preview from Amazing Spider-Man #71 from Nick Spencer, Federico Vicentini, and Federico Sabbatini, Kindred himself is speaking to Peter, sharing that Spider-Man fighting for his life and being pushed to his limits is his dream. However, he also twists Spider-Man's classic line, "with great power there must also come great responsibility." Enjoy the preview pages for the upcoming issue:

"You have great power, old pal," Kindred reflects, "and rest assured, you're responsible." In Kindred's mind, it seems as though everything he's done to get Spider-Man to this point is the fault of Peter Parker. Kindred believes his actions to be necessary, almost like an obligatory correction to Spider-Man's sins. The comics have strongly implied that Kindred is the Harry Osborn from before Spider-Man made a deal with Mephisto to change reality, effectively replacing him with a copy, which would explain what power he feels Peter has wielded over him. As he talks, the preview depicts Spider-Man being beaten to a pulp by the new Sinister Six, and Kindred believes this to be the natural consequence of Spider-Man's actions.
While Kindred is a bitter and self-serving presence, he has a point. Spider-Man changed reality to save his Aunt May, using Mephisto's interest in him as a hero to leverage otherwise impossible power in One More Day. This version of Harry may be a despicable villain, but he has a point that Peter utterly failed to live up to his sense of responsibility and is now facing the consequences made flesh. Spider-Man will have to endure an incredible gauntlet as the pieces of Kindred's plan fall into place, though at least - with Nick Spencer's tenure on the title ending soon - it's likely this story arc will at last reveal the full truth of Kindred's existence and motives. In the meantime, things do not look good for the Webslinger. Here's hoping Spider-Man will get some help soon, as it looks like he's going to need it when Amazing Spider-Man #71 hits retailers July 28.
