A new video for The Suicide Squad explains why audiences should see James Gunn's DC Extended Universe project in an IMAX-enhanced theater. The cast for the film will see Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, Joel Kinnaman, and Viola Davis, all reprising their roles from David Ayer's predecessor. The film will also mark the DCEU debuts of Idris Elba, John Cena, Daniela Melchior, David Dastmalchian, Sylvester Stallone, Steve Agee, Peter Capaldi, Taika Waititi, Michael Rooker, and Nathan Fillion.
The standalone follow-up to David Ayer's 2016 film, the story centers on Amanda Waller assembling a new Task Force X to head to the fictional South American island of Corto Maltese to destroy the Nazi-era prison and laboratory Jotunheim. However, the group finds their task further complicated by discovering a telepathic, kaiju-sized starfish known as Starro. With Gunn's swift production of the film after being let go from Guardians of the Galaxy, the time is nearly here for the expendable team to return to the screen.
With less than a month remaining until the film's arrival, IMAX has unveiled a new video for The Suicide Squad featuring behind-the-scenes footage of the film. Additionally, the video includes interviews with Gunn and some cast members of the film, all of whom tease the large scale of the DCEU title and why audiences should see it in IMAX theaters. When it comes to heading to theaters, whether audiences choose to shell out the extra few dollars to see a film in IMAX comes down to if the title is deserving of the extensive audio and visual format of the theater. Gunn first got to try his hand at the unique technology with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. It proved effective, making for The Suicide Squad's inclusion of sequences short in the format a promising draw for the extra cost. In addition to looking like a better quality film, trailers and images for the film certainly point towards an abundance of large action sequences worthy of attending an IMAX screening.
That being said, it is understandable some may be hesitant to attend such a screening of The Suicide Squad, whether from the safety standpoint of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic or the available option to watch the film on HBO Max. Though it may be to Gunn's chagrin, the range of choices for watching the DCEU follow-up should ensure the film becomes another hit for the filmmaker. Only time will tell when it arrives on August 5.
