The first footage for David Leitch's Bullet Train screened at CinemaCon - here's what went down in it. At this point, Leitch's name is synonymous with pulse-pounding action. Having gotten his start working as a stunt double and coordinator, he's had a hand in several major movies like Fight Club and 300. Leitch served as an uncredited director on John Wick before going on to helm Atomic Blonde and Deadpool 2. His next directorial effort, 2022's Bullet Train, promises to be one of the most exciting movies of next year.
Based on the novel Maria Beetle by Kōtarō Isaka, Bullet Train follows five international assassins as they board a fast-moving Japanese train and learn all of their missions are somehow connected. It boasts an impressively star-studded cast, including Brad Pitt, Sandra Bullock, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Joey King, Zazie Beetz, Logan Lerman, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Michael Shannon. Bullet Train is slated for release in April 2022, and now the first footage has been screened for a select group of people.
Sony held its CinemaCon presentation on Monday night, where the studio revealed a quick clip from Bullet Train. The footage showed Pitt, who plays a character named Ladybug, in the middle of a fistfight with rapper Bad Bunny (whose role remains a mystery). The fight takes place in a luxury cabin on the titular train.

With Leitch involved, the action for Bullet Train is all but guaranteed to be a great deal of fun. It sounds like Leitch is taking full advantage of the location; without knowing for sure exactly how the cabin looks, the titular train can be a thrilling backdrop for all the fight scenes and stunts. Leitch has proven himself adept at high-concept action scenes through his work on John Wick and Atomic Blonde, and Bullet Train should be no exception. Plus, Pitt did his most of his own stunts for Bullet Train, so it'll be quite interesting to see what he manages to pull off.
Much of the conversation surrounding Sony's CinemaCon presentation stemmed from the long-awaited reveal of the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer, though the studio also shared footage from Uncharted and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2. In contrast, Bullet Train feels decidedly more down to earth, which probably says a lot about Sony's other offerings. With the movie scheduled for April of next year, a trailer for the general public could be released in the coming months. Then audiences everywhere can form their own ideas about how Bullet Train will turn out as an pulse-pounding action flick.
