Tails Of Iron Looks Like A Redwall Dark Souls Game | Screen Rant

Having recently released a gameplay trailer, United Label is preparing to publish the latest game from Odd Bug Studio, Tails of Iron, later next month. The game is advertised as an adventure RPG with 2D side-scrolling gameplay. What has caught some fans' attention, though, is a number of similarities between the game and the popular series Dark Souls and Redwall.

Tails of Iron is just one of many properties that the legacy of Dark Souls and Redwall have inspired over the years. FromSoftware's iconic series has spawned an entire subgenre of games referred to as "Souls-like," while inspiration from Brian Jacques' novels can be observed in the stories of Root and Mouse Guard. Traces of both of these franchises appear to be present in Tails of Iron. Here are some of the details that seem to most align with them.

From its plot to its gameplay, there are many features of Tails of Iron that can be compared to Dark Souls and Redwall. Redwall as a series is known for its cast of anthropomorphic animals that embark upon adventures, and a number of the series' main characters are mice. Likewise, Tails of Iron features a warrior rat named Redgi who has his own quest to accomplish. Redgi's goal, namely to defeat the monstrous beings threatening his people and claim the land's vacant throne, bears a striking resemblance to the plot of Dark Souls 2.

Like Dark Souls, Tails of Iron allows players to viscerally engage enemies with a variety of weapons, as well as letting players trade mobility for protection with a number of armor options. All three properties share common settings that evoke the medieval period of history. Many associate Souls-like games with difficulty and Tails of Iron appears to create a similar level of challenge. In addition, the choice to have the game's cast consist of anthropomorphic rats is influenced in part by Redwall. The Tails of Iron gameplay trailer can be viewed here.

These similarities to previous titles are not the game's only selling points, though. Doug Cockle, the voice of The Witcher's Geralt, will narrate Tails of Iron. Additionally, Tails of Iron hopes to distinguish itself from the games it is compared to by emphasizing its lack of a stamina mechanic or skill tree - RPG and Souls-like staples. With these as selling points, the game might stand out among other RPGs, as well as other similar properties, as a uniquely fun experience.
