Thor's Brother Now Wields One Of Marvel's Most Powerful Weapons

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Beta Ray Bill #5

In the latest issue of Marvel's Beta Ray Bill, the warrior brother of Thor has reached the culmination of his epic quest to retrieve the Twilight Sword, the blade that once belonged to the fire lord demon Surtur. However, the powerful blade Bill sought after was not one Surtur was just going to give freely, as he had been waiting for an opponent to battle so that he might become worthy of the blade once more. Naturally, what follows is a battle of epic proportions that would no doubt give even the God of Thunder pause.

Convincing Surtur to agree to a fight as mortals to truly prove his worthiness to the Twilight Sword, Beta Ray Bill and the fire demon soon entered an intense hand to hand brawl once the massive Surtur shrunk down to his level to even the odds. Bill then fought with everything he had, needing the incredibly powerful sword so that he could finally revert back to his humanoid form rather than continuing to be trapped in the more monstrous cyborg-horse form his people had turned him into. While his old hammer Stormbreaker used to be able to transform him back and forth it's since been broken, hence his quest and need for this new mighty weapon.

Now, Beta Ray Bill #5 from Daniel Warren Johnson and Mike Spicer sees Bill receiving some much-needed aid from his wingmen Pip and the Executioner, especially when Surtur grew tired and returned back to his massive size and power. As a result, a well-placed shot from the Executioner using a gun formed from Bill's sentient ship Skuttlebutt knocked Surtur down long enough for the Korbinite warrior to retrieve the Twilight Sword, immediately using it in epic fashion against the fire demon who long ago laid waste to his people and homeworld, being the reason he was transformed into a cyborg in the first place.

With Surtur's beheading and defeat, Bill and his allies departed the hellish and fiery realm of Muspelheim with some help from the Valkyries, who also took the Executioner back to Valhalla. Additionally, it seems as though Pip the Troll will survive the blow he received from Surtur, and all should be right in Bill's world. He now wields the Twilight Sword and with it the power to be whole, returning to his old humanoid form. That being said, it seems as though Bill isn't quite content despite his quest coming to an end with what looks like everything to be a complete success.

While Bill got what he wanted, it seems as though his journey's end might have caused him to realize that acceptance of Bill's true self should have always been the goal, rather than worrying about his superficial appearance. In any case, it's clear that he's certainly conflicted by this victory, and it's going to be really interesting to see where Beta Ray Bill goes next now that he wields one of the most powerful weapons in the Marvel Universe that rivals Thor's own hammer Mjolnir.
