A new piece of art shows what Spider-Man could look as a zombie hunting Doctor Strange in a live-action What If…? movie. What If…? is the first animated MCU show coming to Disney+ next week. The show revolves around alternate timelines, showing what it could look like if Peggy Carter became Captain America, what would have happened if Killmonger saved Tony Stark, and several other scenarios that didn’t happen in the movies.
One aspect of What If…? is Peter Parker becoming the Sorcerer Supreme over Stephen Strange. Many MCU actors are returning to voice their characters, but surprisingly, Tom Holland is not returning to voice his webslinger. Zombies haven’t been introduced in the MCU, except for zombie Iron Man in Parker’s hallucination in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Marvel’s What If…? looks to be changing that by introducing zombie Iron Man, Captain America, and Hawkeye. It’s been known for a while that Spider-Man would take Doctor Strange’s role in the series. However, recent merchandise for the animated series revealed the character would also be a zombie hunter, hinting that Spider-Man will track down the undead heroes in one of the show's episodes.
There have been a few looks at Spider-Man’s role in the animated show via trailers and the official What If…? poster, but a new piece of fan art from elilusionista.cl imagines Marvel making a live-action What If…? movie or TV show. The art shows the famous webslinger with multiple arms atop a car with the Cloak of Levitation with zombies roaming around him. The artist also included a short video showing how the piece was created, starting with an image from The Last of Us 2 video game.

What If…? is about to showcase multiple fascinating alternate realities, but a zombie hunting Spider-Man with Doctor Strange’s powers is arguably the most intriguing. This plotline will not only give Spider-Man an entirely new set of powers, but having Iron Man, Captain America, and Hawkeye dead is a drastic departure from the MCU’s main storyline. How these heroes become the walking dead isn’t known just yet. However, it will surely be a unique aspect of the series when the episode airs.
A live-action What If…? movie or TV show could be interesting to see, but it would also present Marvel with a series of challenges. For one, the MCU has yet to have an anthology-style movie, which would be considered a risk. That would also mean Marvel would have to bring back multiple actors from previous movies, including Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr., both of which have concluded their story arcs. Phase 4 is already set to show multiple realities thanks to Sylvie fracturing the Sacred Timeline, so a What If…? live-action project simply might not be necessary.
