The Suicide Squad certainly isn't the final DCEU film coming from Warner Bros, with the next DC movie releasing in theaters in only eight months. Despite the pandemic causing production and release delays throughout the entertainment industry, The Suicide Squad was lucky enough to avoid all that. Unlike the many delays that hit Wonder Woman 1984, the plan was always to release The Suicide Squad in August 2021, though getting to that point with post-production likely wasn't a walk in the park.
What's interesting about the long post-production for The Suicide Squad, particularly working during lockdowns around the world, is that writer-director James Gunn took the extra time to write a spinoff series for HBO Max starring John Cena as Peacemaker. Cena makes his debut at the deadly vigilante in Gunn's film, but he will return on the small screen in January 2022, seeing as Gunn not only pitched and wrote the first season of the spinoff during the pandemic but fully completed filming it, too. However, it's likely that before audiences see the Peacemaker show on HBO Max, they'll get a look at DC's next movie on the big screen: The Batman.
Matt Reeves' The Batman starring Robert Pattison as the eponymous superhero is the next DC movie to release in theaters after The Suicide Squad. It's a film that was initially mired in controversy in 2017 when Ben Affleck stepped down as writer, director, and producer, and then eventually the lead actor. It was the final step in Affleck moving away from DC, though he'll return in The Flash movie in 2022 anyway. Reeves was brought on board and sometime later, Pattinson joined the project as the next live-action Bruce Wayne. The Batman is scheduled to release in theaters on March 4, 2022.

Unlike what happened with Wonder Woman 1984 and The Suicide Squad, though, The Batman won't be on HBO Max. Warner Bros' plans for simultaneous releases in theaters and on streaming were temporary to recoup as much of their costs as possible during the pandemic. But the studio has been adamant that the day one streaming debuts will end in 2021. If The Batman had kept its October 2021 release date, then it would've come to HBO Max, but that's no longer the case.
And while there have only been a handful of new DC movie releases since 2018 - five, to be exact, not counting the release of Zack Snyder's Justice League - 2022 will quickly ramp things up on that front. Several movies are coming after The Batman, including DC's Super-Pets, Black Adam, The Flash, and Aquaman 2, all of which will hit theaters in 2022. Then after that will be Shazam: Fury of the Gods in 2023, with HBO Max's first DC movie, Batgirl, debuting sometime in either 2022 or 2023. So all in all, things are looking up for DC Films.
