Joe Hill's graphic adaptation of Rain will launch a brand new Image Comics imprint, Syzygy, from Chris Ryall and Ashley Wood. The new line will launch with a comic book adaption of Hill's Rain, which features the creative team of David M. Booher, Zoe Thorogood, Chris O'Halloran, and Shawn Lee. We've got a first look at the upcoming series.
Rain originally debuted in Joe Hill's (Locke & Key) 2017 novel Strange Weather. The story tells the tale of Honeysuckle Speck as she is moving in with her girlfriend, Yolanda. However, when a dark cloud begins to form over their home in Boulder, Colorado, the rain releases a downpour of nails instead of the usual raindrops. The deadly nails spread across the world as the couple attempts to avoid them and stay alive in what can only be described as a horrifying and twisted tale.
David M. Booher, Zoe Thorogood, Chris O'Halloran, and Shawn Lee will join Ryan and Wood - creators of Zombies Vs. Robots - in the adaptation of Rain for the new Image Comics imprint Syzygy. The five-issue miniseries will kick off the new imprint, which will feature numerous comics, graphic novels, and art books. Ryall exclusively told Screen Rant how they came up with the Syzygy name and how exciting it was to work with Image Comics on the imprint.
You couldn’t ask for a better inaugural creative team and story with which to kick of Syzygy. David, Zoe, and Chris all bring such immense skill and storytelling acumen to this project, and what they’ve done with Joe Hill’s gripping story is somehow both gorgeous and terrible to behold. Syzygy is defined as ‘the configuration of celestial bodies in a gravitational system and the added benefit and utter thrill to me is that Image Comics is Rain’s gravitational center. We have long admired how Image has expanded and enhanced this industry, and it’s as exciting to see that ‘i’ on our cover as it is the names of the creators involved.
Wood said she's incredibly excited to be working at Image Comics again.

The first issue of Rain will feature a Gustav Klimpt-inspired cover by Thorogood, with a variant cover from Elizabeth Beals. Wood also created a special painted cover inspired by Klimpt, which is a 1:25 inventive cover. Each issue of Rain will also feature a backup story by Ryall and Wood for the upcoming Syzygy title Unnamed, which features immortal hunters in 1960s London in pursuit of a fanged created.
Rain's debut issue (of the five-issue miniseries) by David M. Booher, Zoe Thorogood, Chris O'Halloran, and Shawn Lee comes to comic book stores on January 12, 2022.
