The Batman BTS Video Shows Gordon Discovering The Batmobile

A new Batman behind-the-scenes video sees Jeffrey Wright's Jim Gordon discovering the Batmobile and working with Robert Pattinson's titular hero. The new film from co-writer/director Matt Reeves serves as a reboot of the Batman film franchise, bringing the character back to his second year of fighting crime in Gotham City. The film pulls from the comics "Year One," "The Long Halloween" and "Ego" for inspiration as Reeves seeks to highlight the titular character's detective skills.

The Batman will see Pattinson's Bruce Wayne/Batman discover an entangled web of corruption in Gotham with connections to his family while also facing off against a serial killer known as the Riddler. Alongside Pattinson and Wright, the film's ensemble roster includes Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth and Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot, aka the Penguin. With just a few months remaining until the film's arrival, Warner Bros. is offering little teases to keep anticipation high for The Batman's debut in theaters.

Longtime fans of the Batman film franchise or comic books know the unique dynamic of Jim Gordon and the Dark Knight's relationship in the world of crime fighting and The Batman certainly looks like one of the more intriguing explorations yet. The new BTS video gives a good look at the nature of their relationship, clearly siding with each other to bring the Riddler to justice, though previous trailers have also indicated the Dark Knight will face tension from the Gotham Police. Given the story will see him facing corruption in the city alongside Dano's serial killer, his troubles with the GCPD will likely stem from corrupt officers rather than those who simply disagree with his vigilante methods.

The new The Batman BTS video also gives a good sense of the tone audiences can expect from the detective-driven story. Between the moody lighting and production design for its sets, Reeves looks to have taken inspiration from the works of David Fincher, namely Seven and Zodiac, for his depiction of the character frequently cited as one of the world's greatest detectives. Only time will tell how all the pieces fall into place when The Batman hits theaters on March 4, 2022.
