Buckle in Dune fans, it looks like a new survival game is on its way! Set in the world of Frank Herbert's Dune the new project is said to be reminiscent of the popular survival game known as Conan Exiles. A recent press release from developers Nukklear and Funcom revealed more details about their recent partnership, plus the upcoming game and what to expect.
In 2020, internet company Tecenet acquired the game studio Funcom. With this acquisition, Funcom was able to move forward with many games thanks to the funding they received. Funcom is no stranger to bringing big-screen characters to video games. The studio is best known for its role in creating Conan Exiles, a survival game where players create a custom character and explore The Exiled Lands. Players are challenged by having to stay well-fed and hydrated, all the while having to look over their shoulders worrying about other players attacking them. The online multiplayer game's server can hold up to 40 players so there is usually an enemy nearby. If it isn't players nearby, there is a slew of other enemies to worry about as well. There is an extreme survival aspect to this game that many players love.
In an exciting press release from NUKKLEAR GmbH, they announced their partnership with Funcom is bringing together the world of Conan Exiles and Dune. Funcom acquired the rights to the Dune series in 2019 and has been working on creating this game. Now with the help of Nukklear they are said to be pushing the game even further. The untitled game will be set in the science fiction world of Dune with a survival twist. Presumably, players will be able to create a custom character and explore multiple lands, while facing many challenges along the way. The news did not mention further details about the game or what to expect aside from the fact there is a lot of inspiration taken from Conan Exiles.

NUKKLEAR has a solid background in assisting video game companies with user interface and user experience. They are best known for their work on Destroy All Humans and Comanche. Partnering with Funcom will allow Nukklear to flex their muscles even more. They have experience with 3D work and can help Funcom fully realize their vision with the new game. The partnership to bring this game to life seem like a perfect fit for what both companies hope to achieve with this project.
With all of the challenges players face in Conan Exiles, it will be interesting to see what they draw on from the Dune universe to add to the survival genre. It would be a fun element to have space travel and to potentially have spaceship battles in the PVP server. There is no news in that regard, but given Nukklear's experience with flight simulation, it might be a great fit. Players may wonder if this Dune and Conan Exiles combination will feature multiple worlds or a new spice to the existing formula. For now, they will have to wait and see.
