Loki Doubled Tom Hiddleston's MCU Screen Time After 10 Years

Even though Loki has been in the MCU for more than a decade, Tom Hiddleston’s MCU screen-time has already been doubled in Phase 4, and it’s all thanks to his character’s Disney+ show. Over the years, the God of Mischief has appeared in a total of six Marvel movies, beginning with Thor in 2011 and ending with Avengers: Endgame in 2019. Loki marks his seventh appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

For many years, Loki has been utilized in a number of different ways. He masterminded the main plots of Thor and The Avengers to serve as the primary threat to the heroes. He’s also worked as a secondary villain and as an anti-hero forced to work with the main protagonist. After killing off the character in Avengers: Infinity War and introducing a new alternate timeline version, Marvel is finally showing that the iconic Marvel Comics character is capable of headlining his own project. By giving him the spotlight, Marvel has managed to give Hiddleston’s villain even more depth and layers than he already had.

Following the conclusion of Loki’s six-episode first season, Disney+ has released the third installment in its Marvel Studios: Assembled docuseries centered on the making of its Phase 4 shows. This particular chapter, which is all about the newest series, revealed an interesting detail about how Loki has been used in the MCU. In the special, Loki executive producer Kevin R. Wright said that in doing “the math”, it was discovered that Loki had a bit less than two hours of screen-time ahead of the show’s premiere. So when factoring in that, the runtimes of all Loki episodes and how significantly he’s featured in each one, it’s clear that his MCU screen-time has doubled at the very least in Phase 4. Given that Loki episodes are close to an hour in length, Hiddleston has easily appeared in more than two hours of content during the Disney+ show.

In comparison, Loki has never been on screen for more than 21 minutes in one movie. These numbers may be somewhat surprising when taking into consideration how important Loki has been to Thor’s world and the fact that he’s had a mostly consistent presence in the MCU, not to mention he was the main villain in the first Avengers film. Admittedly, his roles in Infinity War and Endgame were very brief, but he was a major character in four movies. That’s less than some heroes of course, but much more than any other villain.

The change highlights how much Phase 4 has elevated Loki. Plus, it goes to show just how much MCU characters and their stories have benefited from Marvel’s Disney+ plan. Because of Marvel Studios’ decision to expand their world with Disney+ shows, characters that likely never would have received their own movies are finally getting their due. The popularity of their shows prove that Marvel’s efforts have paid off wonderfully. And in the case of the God of Mischief, he certainly he isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. With Loki season 2 already confirmed and a Doctor Strange 2 role reportedly being on the horizon, it looks like he’ll be around a good while longer.
