Mamoswine is the newest Sinnoh creature to join Pokemon Unite. Mamoswine was announced alongside Sylveon as a newcomer to this MOBA title. It belongs in the Defender category, meaning that these Pokemon are responsible for defending their teammates and taking most of the big damage. It shares this category alongside Pokemon like Blastoise, Snorlax, Crustle, and Slowbro. This means that players selecting this Pokemon will focus more on slow gameplay and acting as a support for the rest of the team.
Before players can build their perfect Mamoswine, they will need to unlock them first. At the start of the game, players are able to choose a single Unite License and this Pokemon will function as the starter for this game. There are only five starter characters to choose from in Pokemon Unite. As players play more games and progress, they will unlock more Unite Licenses, and currency, that can be used to purchase new characters. In the case of Mamoswine, players will need to purchase their Unite License from the Unite Battle Committee Shop for 8,000 Aeos or 460 Aeos gems.
After unlocking Mamoswine, players should put the proper moves, Battle, and Held Items to help it perform in battle. These provide small buffs that can change the tide of battle. These items will help Mamoswine work to the best of their ability.
- Held Item 1: Buddy Barrier: When the Pokemon uses its Unite Move, that Pokemon and the nearby ally Pokemon with the lowest HP are each granted a shield equal to (20/30/40)% of their max HP. After a player earns a Held Item, they can learn how to upgrade items in Pokemon Unite to make their effects even stronger.
- Held Item 2: Focus Band: When the Pokemon drops too low HP, then each second for three seconds, it recovers (8/11/14)% of the HP it has lost.
- Held Item 3: Muscle Band: When basic attacks hit, the damage is increased by 1%/2%/3% of the opposing Pokemon's remaining HP.
- Move 1: Earthquake: This will send Mamoswine flying in a direction and once it lands, it sends a shockwave that deals damage to nearby enemies. It will also slow down the movement speed of opposing Pokemon for a limited time.
- Move 2: Icicle Crash: This will drop icicles at a specific location of the player's choosing. This does tons of damage and also slows the Pokemon down upon impact.
- Battle Item: Full Heal: Since Mamoswine will function as one of the best Defenders in Pokemon Unite, it's important for it to stay alive for as long as possible. The Full Heal will remove any status effects and prevent them for a period of time.
Mamoswine is a character that works best when they focus on crowd control. Players can nerf enemy teams in an instant with just a single charge Earthquake, or Icicle Crash. This is great for defending goals or weakened teammates. Since Mamoswine is so new, its competitive viability will change as players discover more of the mechanics Pokemon Unite has to offer.
