New characters and courses have been announced for Mario Golf: Super Rush, with a free update out now. The news was revealed during the most recent Nintendo Direct stream, which also announced a host of exciting games including a new addition to the Kirby series, as well as a Nintendo Switch Online expansion.
Mario Golf: Super Rush is the latest game in the beloved Mario Golf series, but the title received mixed reception when it launched on Switch earlier this year. Revamping the traditional golfing experience, the game adds new features, game modes, and online play with some of the biggest characters from the Mushroom Kingdom, but didn't meet the expectations of many of its players, in part due to gameplay that many found bland and repetitive. Mario Golf: Super Rush has been expanded since then, adding additional playable character Toadette, and bringing in a fan-favorite golf course based on Super Mario Odyssey.
The trailer for Mario Golf: Super Rush's second free update was shared on Twitter by Nintendo of America, giving fans another look at the new content following the Nintendo Direct. Koopa Troopa brings tricky shots and dashes to the game as a new playable character, alongside the speedy Ninji. Two new golf courses, Blustery Basin and Spiky Palms, are also included as part of the update, and their snowy and sandy terrains should provide some new challenges.

Nintendo seems to be set on regular updates for Mario Golf: Super Rush, which could help to make the game a better experience for those underwhelmed by the title at launch. The second new update for the game comes just over a month after the first, which could mean players can expect to see new characters, golf courses, and game mods, added fairly regularly. The Super Mario series of games has almost endless familiar faces, levels, and features that could easily be adapted for the golfing game, with lots of routes for Nintendo to take with future content.
Mario Golf: Super Rush fans will likely get to see more fully themed levels, like Odyssey's New Donk City, as the game continues to evolve. The golf course based on the iconic city has been a favorite among players since its release last month, and its popularity will probably mean other similar courses are planned for the future. While the second update was revealed during the September Nintendo Direct, the first was announced across social media, meaning fans don't necessarily need to wait for a big Nintendo event for new Mario Golf: Super Rush content reveals.
