Tommy Lee Approves Sebastian Stan’s Portrayal of Him in Pam & Tommy

Tommy Lee is looking forward to seeing Sebastian Stan play him in the upcoming Hulu limited series Pam & Tommy. The 58-year-old musician found fame during the 1980s after forming the heavy metal band Mötley Crüe. By the 90s, Lee was a hot topic in tabloids for his excessive partying and relationships with models and actresses. In 1995, Lee married Baywatch star Pamela Anderson in Mexico just four days after they met. They divorced three years later. Their tumultuous marriage resulted in two sons, highly publicized fights, police altercations, and a notorious sex tape released without their consent.

Pam & Tommy will revolve around this rocky period in Lee and Anderson's lives. Cinderella star Lily James will play Anderson, while Marvel's Sebastian Stan will portray the Mötley Crüe drummer. Pam & Tommy began filming in April this year and wrapped up production in July. Leaked set photos showed James and Stan's amazing physical transformations to portray the famous ex-couple.

While walking the red carpet of last week's MTV Video Music Awards, Lee commented on the upcoming biopic about his marriage to Anderson. Lee told ET that while he has not seen photos of Stan from Pam & Tommy, he admitted that the actor has reached out to him. The musician stated that he thinks it's a "beautiful story" and that he's "stoked" to see Stan's performance. He added that the miniseries would hopefully shed light on what happened during those "crazy" years. Read his comments below:

I know Sebastian, he's playing me. From what he's told me, really beautiful story. I think a lot of people would think it's one thing, but it's really about privacy and how things got crazy then. There's different laws now. The story is actually cool. What actually happened wasn't, but from what [Stan] told me, it's pretty wild.

Stan would be happy to know that he has Lee's blessing to portray him in Pam & Tommy. Behind-the-scenes images reveal that the Winter Soldier actor has obviously spent a lot of time trying to look and act the part of the legendary drummer. From the tattoos, body piercings, and Lee's trademark poses, Stan has certainly got the part down pat. The Marvel star even posted a video on Instagram to show off his newly acquired drumstick-twirling skills, which is a product of hours of practice.

Despite James and Stan's dedication to look like their characters, it is unclear how faithful Pam & Tommy will remain to the actual events surrounding Lee and Anderson's marriage. What viewers need to keep in mind is that the series is not an official biopic, but a dramatized re-telling of past events. Lee's cool and calm attitude towards it, however, seems to imply that he's ready to accept whatever creative changes the show is bound to make. His approval will definitely boost the cast's confidence as Pam & Tommy gears up for its highly anticipated release.
