Animal Crossing: New Horizons recently announced a PUMA partnership, which left some fans disappointed. This crossover is likely to include purely cosmetic items, but a puma villager to recruit onto players' islands might help bring people back around on the collaboration. This would be the first new villager addition since the launch of the game in 2020. A new villager could revitalize the Animal Crossing community in a hunt for their newest neighbor.
The recent dearth of Animal Crossing: New Horizons content has left some islanders searching for new activities to fill their time. ACNH has been absent from many Nintendo Direct livestreams and game conventions, worrying the community that the title has been abandoned by developers. However, Nintendo's President assured fans Animal Crossing's development would continue, so with luck, the PUMA partnership could be the first step towards a substantial content update.
Incorporating a new puma villager into the PUMA-New Horizons partnership would likely feel more substantive than merecosmetics, like shoes or outfits. ACNH's current method of obtaining Villagers is rather straightforward, and requires players to have a vacant space or a visitor in the campsite. Centering this crossover around a unique villager that requires the construction of DIY recipes, completion of certain quests, or a unique event to recruit could shake up the process and give players something new to do.

A Puma Villager would be a logical addition to the current cast of Villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Tigers and Lions are already a villager type in ACNH, but a new species would be welcomed by the community. Interior design centered around PUMA wallpaper, flooring, clothes, and furniture could further advertise the company while adding content. While some players may not want corporations having a place on their island, recruiting a new villager type with a connection to the mainland could be a pleasant reminder for those looking for a little continental flair.
Since release, Animal Crossing: New Horizons' most popular Villagers have remained largely unchanged. Characters like Raymond or Marshall have consistently dominated the community's interests. By implementing a themed villager correctly, Nintendo could give ACNH a much-needed shakeup. Whether Nintendo will do anything as substantive as creating a new villager for ACNH is unknown, and perhaps even unlikely, but the PUMA event would do better to bring more to the game than clothes. Animal Crossing: New Horizons' 2021 update will likely release soon, but the drought of content throughout the summer months has not been promising. The PUMA collaboration clothing will release September 12, but no in-game content has been revealed.
