Army of the Dead: Snyder Wants To Explore Tig Notaro Character's Origin

Director Zack Snyder has revealed that he would love to explore the backstory of Tig Notaro's Army of the Dead character. The first Army of the Dead film was incredibly well received following its initial release on Netflix back in May. The movie tells the story of Dave Bautista's character, Scott Ward, as he attempts to pull off an insane heist smack bang in the middle of a zombie apocalypse that has torn through Las Vegas. The film saw Bautista star alongside the likes of Ella Purnell, Ana de la Reguera, Omari Hardwick, Matthias Schweighöfer and, of course, Notaro.

The films success spurred the almost immediate release of a prequel, Army of Thieves. The film recently dropped on Netflix and tells the story of the story of Schweighöfer's Ludwig Dieter, giving audiences a little more insight into how he became a code-cracking extraordinaire. Dieter was certainly one of the fan-favorites within the cast, particularly following his heroic death scene that saw him sacrifice himself to buy his team mate, Vanderohe (Hardwick) more time to escape. Another character that also received major praise from viewers was Peters (Notaro), whose appearance in the film was a last minute addition following a recasting of Chris D'Elia's character. Notaro's performance as the deadpan helicopter pilot was all thanks to CGI reshoots, as the actor was green screened, near-seamlessly, into each shot she appeared in.

Now, Snyder has shared that Notaro's character is actually one that he would love to expand upon in future Army of the Dead-related projects. Speaking to Variety, Snyder appeared to acknowledge the love for Notaro's character and mentioned that he would love to explore Peters' backstory, stating that it "could be really fun." The director went on to say that it would interesting to see how Peters ended up "piloting a zombie rescue mission" after previously hosting helicopter tours. Check out Snyder's full quote below.

"I think Tig’s character, of course, could be really fun to find out how she went from doing dry, narrations of her helicopter tours at the Grand Canyon to piloting a zombie rescue mission. That would be interesting."

Snyder then went on to joke that Flight of the Dead could be an appropriate title for a prequel or sequel if it were to centre around Notaro's character, given her previous line of work. While this news will likely be welcomed by those who were a fan of Peters' character, it certainly begs the question of how Snyder would explore the helicopter pilots backstory in Army of the Dead 2 or another Army spinoff. The last audiences saw of her, things were not looking too good, as she seemingly did not survive a rather brutal helicopter crash that occurred in the final moments of the film. However, with Snyder recently saying that time travel will be key to the story of Army of the Dead 2, it will be exciting to see how the movie revisits the characters who previously met their fate.

Snyder's recent confirmation that the upcoming Army of the Dead sequel is officially titled Planet of the Dead, audiences have perhaps been provided with a clue as to how events have unfolded since the first movie. It's clear that Snyder mirrors the fans' appreciation for Notaro's character and is excited to bring her to the forefront in Army of the Dead 2, or another movie. Considering her previous inclusion in the film was all achieved through CGI, it would certainly be exciting to see Notaro physically appear within the scenes and interact with her co-stars in the sequel. What remains to be seen is exactly what the future holds for Peters. However, with Army of the Dead 2 not set to begin production until 2022, fans still have a little while to wait.
