A long-awaited update has been announced for Animal Crossing: New Horizons during the September 2021 Nintendo Direct, confirming exciting new content for New Horizons including Brewster's Roost cafe. After a summer devoid of new additions, and repeated events to pass the time, more extensive update information seems to be coming via the special Animal Crossing Direct, which will air in October.
The September Nintendo Direct showcase has already confirmed a new expansion for the New Horizons museum, which will introduce the popular Animal Crossing NPC Brewster and his cafe as an add-on area for the museum. Brewster has been a widely requested New Horizons addition, and the cafe will give players a new location to visit outside of Able Sisters and Nook's Cranny. Currently, it isn't known what players will need to do to get the cafe to open, but it will likely involve a series of quests or a new loan with Tom Nook.
It was revealed after the New Horizons footage that a special Nintendo Direct for Animal Crossing will be aired during October. While the time and date haven't been revealed, this Direct looks like it may focus on the big Animal Crossing: New Horizons update that was teased earlier in the summer. In addition to Brewster's Cafe, there could also be large expansions to base gameplay, or potentially heavily requested quality-of-life improvements - like the ability to craft multiple items at once and bigger pocket storage.

There is also a possibility that updates to player homes and existing island businesses could be added to Animal Crossing: New Horizons alongside holiday content. While nothing has been confirmed, additional expansions to player homes could add new rooms, buildings, and storage, offering players more spaces to decorate. A shed or studio set away from player houses could be a particularly interesting addition and could be converted into an art room, greenhouse, or game room - among many other options. Expansions to Able Sisters could create more space for outfit sales, and Nook's Cranny could offer a larger number of daily decorations with the addition of a new floorplan or an upstairs showroom.
The Animal Crossing Direct could also reveal what might be expected both in the upcoming Fall and Winter updates. This could include the potential for new holiday seasonal events, as well as expansions to last year's fall farming update that added pumpkins. The addition of further farming options in Animal Crossing: New Horizons would likely be well received, as planting pumpkins has remained a fun way to have and cultivate a garden outside of the already present flower choices. With so many possibilities, the new content will hopefully refresh gameplay for those who have run out of things to do and reinvigorate players for the holiday season ahead.
