Animal Crossing: New Horizons players celebrate several holidays together during the year, but birthday festivities vary by island. Every resident plays a role in their island community, and birthdays are an opportunity for them to be recognized individually. Each ACNH villager's birthday is an adorable event that the whole island participates in celebrating.
All of the over 400 ACNH recruitable villagers celebrate their birthdays on a certain day of the year. A few share their birthdays with other villagers, such as Boyd and Raymond on October 1. Every player also has a villager birthday buddy, except for those born on February 29. Due to this, it is possible to have double birthdays in New Horizons, during which the two residents will share a celebration with special villager dialogue recognizing the serendipitous coincidence.
Although players’ birthdays have always been celebrated, the Animal Crossing series did not introduce villager birthdays until Animal Crossing: Wild World. Since this introduction, villagers have observed their birthdays in a variety of ways, such as sleeping in late or having a party. Animal Crossing: New Horizons recognizes every villager’s birthday with special events.
In ACNH, preparation for a villager’s birthday begins about a week in advance. Tom Nook will post a notice about the upcoming event to the Bulletin Board. This will make the celebration the talk of the island and other villagers will mention it in conversations. During this time, players can begin picking out a gift and some wrapping paper from Nook’s Cranny to present to the villager on their birthday.
Once the big day arrives, Isabelle will mention it in her daily announcements. Players can then grab their gift and head to the villager’s house for a birthday party in New Horizons. Upon entering the villager’s home, the player is welcomed to celebrate with the birthday villager and another Animal Crossing island resident. It is then time to enjoy a party with decorations and dancing to K.K. Birthday. Alternatively or additionally, players can also send a letter to the birthday villager and attach a present at the island airport.
When players leave the party, the birthday villager will thank them for attending the party and remind them how much their friendship means. The following day, the villager will send a thank you letter to the player for their gift and they may even include a gift of their own. Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ villager birthday parties are a fun break from players’ regular routines as well as a great way to recognize island friends.
