Fun Features Slime Rancher 2 Should Add That Weren't In The Original

Many new indie games were announced during E3 2021, including the upcoming farming simulation game Slime Rancher 2. The original Slime Rancher released as an early access game on Steam in 2016, and was released in full on PC and Xbox One in 2017. The simulation game was an overwhelming success, allowing players to take on the role of the protagonist Beatrix LeBeau on the Far Far Range as she collected and raised a variety of sentient, alien slimes.

The original Slime Rancher possesses a number of features that fans of simulation and farming games would find familiar. These include the ability to raise slimes in pens on their ranch, grow fruits and vegetables, and expand the ranch through a variety of upgrades. While raising and feeding Slime Rancher's slimes for the Plorts makes up most of the primary gameplay, players can also engage in Slime Science to build gadgets like drills, pumps, and apiaries. Slimes aren't the only creatures that can be raised, as there are several different species of Hen Hens that can be used as both food for carnivorous slimes, and as companions to liven up the lonely ranch.

Slime Rancher 2 will be set in a different location than Slime Rancher, taking Beatrix away from her original ranch as she explores a conservatory on Rainbow Island. According to information from the Developers on Steam, many popular mechanics will be returning in the sequel, including upgraded slime pens, storage, and farming plots. However, Slime Rancher 2 is also the perfect opportunity for developer Monomi Park to integrate new mechanics that have been popular in other farming games like Stardew Valley or Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Customizing characters has become a popular way for players to engage with gameplay in simulation games. Because of this, Slime Rancher 2 should consider introducing a method for players to customize outfits and gear for Beatrix. Clothing items could be purchased, earned by completing quests, or found in Treasure Pods hidden around different Slime Rancher biome maps. It could also be possible to introduce color schemes for the Vacpack, similar to the color schemes available for the outside of the ranch house in Slime Rancher.

It would also be interesting to see new farmable animals included in Slime Rancher 2, instead of relying entirely on Hen Hens from the previous game. It could be possible to raise small sheep, goats, or even have fish ponds where goldfish of several varieties could be bred and kept. All of these options would give players more critters to keep track of while raising their slimes. Another improvement many would likely enjoy in Slime Rancher 2 would be a fully customizable bedroom for Beatrix, offering a more personalized experience than was available in the previous game.
