Ratcatcher 2 Meets Remy in Suicide Squad & Ratatouille Crossover Art

A new piece of fan art imagines The Suicide Squad's Ratcatcher 2 and Sebastian having the best meal of their lives courtesy of Ratatouille’s Remy. James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad dives deep into DC’s gallery of unhinged rogues to bring a slew of lesser-known villains to Amanda Waller’s Task Force X. The newcomers join Rick Flag and Harley Quinn, who are reprising their roles from David Ayer's 2016 Suicide Squad. One of the film’s most memorable new additions is Celo Cazo/Ratcatcher 2 (Daniela Melchoir), who Gunn has described as the heart of the film and among his favorite characters to write.

When Cleo first appears at the beginning of The Suicide Squad, she is accompanied by her loyal rodent companion, Sebastian, who is played by two rats affectionately named Jaw and Crisp Rat (an obvious reference to Guardians of the Galaxy actor Chris Pratt). Partway through the film, Cleo elaborates on her backstory in Portugal, where she was raised by her father, the original Ratcatcher. Cleo's father taught her how to control rats, and the pair survived on the streets with their help. After Ratcatcher’s death, Cleo adopted the mantle of Ratcatcher 2 before being arrested and sent to Belle Reve prison. Of all Task Force X’s convicts, Ratcatcher 2 is easily the most righteous, befriending the humanoid King Shark despite his attempt to eat both her and the rest of the Suicide Squad.

Artist Rachel Hoo recently posted a piece of The Suicide Squad and Ratatouille crossover art to Instagram. The piece imagines Ratcatcher 2 and Sebastian sitting down for a meal with Remy. The pair each enjoy a plate of spaghetti while the tiny rat chef watches on, delighted. Check it out below:

Brad Bird’s Ratatouille (2007) follows Remy, a rat who pursues his dream of becoming a professional chef in Paris. Along the way, Remy teams up with a young cook, Alfredo Linguini, who helps him realize his improbable mission of succeeding as a chef in a rodent-phobic profession. Together, Remy and Linguini attempt to win over a notorious restaurant critic, Anton Ego. The film won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and remains one of the most beloved Pixar projects.

The Suicide Squad, like Ratatouille, is a film very much concerned with overcoming expectations and embracing idiosyncrasies. Although Ratcatcher 2’s father struggled with drug addiction, he taught her to love unconditionally, saying, “rats are the lowliest and most despised of all creature. If they have purpose, so do we all.” Ratatouille sees Remy find his purpose and, in The Suicide Squad, Task Force X defeats Starro the Conqueror thanks to Ratcatcher 2’s unique power of rat control. And while it's extremely unlikely that a crossover between these two films will ever actually come to fruition, audiences may see Cleo and Sebastian again. With HBO Max’s upcoming Peacemaker spinoff on the horizon, Melchior and Crisp Ratt could certainly have a future in the DCEU.
