With PAW Patrol: The Movie currently in theaters and on Paramount+, parents and kids might be wondering about PAW Patrol 2; here's what to know. Despite the PAW Patrol series having been around since 2013 and spawning a vast media franchise, this is the first time it has gotten a feature-length theatrical release in North America. So far, so good: with an estimated budget of $26 million, PAW Patrol: The Movie has earned almost $62 million at the global box office to date, and it's likely that Paramount+ saw a bump in subscriptions and/or viewership thanks to the movie.
It follows PAW Patrol's plucky protagonist, Ryder, a young boy who leads the PAW Patrol, a crew of search-and-rescue and emergency services dogs, each representing a different service. Chase is a German Shepherd who works as a police dog and spy. Marshall is a Dalmatian who, as one might guess, is a firefighter dog and paramedic. Skye is a cockapoo and helicopter pilot, serving as the team's air rescue and scout. Zuma is a chocolate Labrador Retriever who serves as Skye's aquatic rescue pup counterpart. Rocky is a Scottish Terrier-Schnauzer breed who is a handyman and responsible for recycling. Lastly, there's Rubble, a bulldog who serves as the team's construction pup and builder. Newer members have been added over the years, but that's the core PAW Patrol team that has been together from the start.
The Canadian franchise has been a wildly popular one, both in Canada and the U.S. It originally started out as a CG-animated series animated by Guru Studio, but producer/developer Spin Master soon spun it into multiple animated TV movies, a popular line of toys, video games, and even live-action shows, all aimed at the preschool-age audience. With the popularity of the series overall, and the success of PAW Patrol: The Movie, it's only a matter of time before Paw Patrol 2 is announced. Here's what to know.

Talks of exploring the potential for a series of PAW Patrol theatrical releases began in late 2017, with Spin Master quickly conducting a few animation tests to see how the style of the TV series would translate to the big screen. It was soon apparent that the more simplistic and clunkier animation of the TV show just didn't translate well to the screen and the decision was made to tap Montreal's Mikros Image to handle the animation for the theatrical releases.
In addition to making the overall animation for the movie more polished, with more details and textures than the TV series, the animators also focused on making action sequences more theatrical and life-like. For example, the back legs of the pups, which are rather cartoonish in the TV show and function more like stick legs, were designed to move like actual dogs. The resulting changes made for a movie that had a much more cinematic quality and bigger action scenes but still kept the feel of the animated series. Though the animation required to be big-screen quality is certainly more expensive, the first PAW Patrol movie has been a success and Spin Master will almost certainly use the same animation style for the sequels.

At the moment, a second PAW Patrol movie hasn't been officially announced. But Spin Master's plan was always to make multiple movies, so it's entirely possible that plans for PAW Patrol 2 are already in the works, even if it hasn't been publicly confirmed yet. The first movie was first announced on an earnings call in early 2019, but the release date wasn't announced until February 21, 2020. Judging from that timeline, PAW Patrol 2 will take around three years to develop, produce, and then hit theaters, though that timeline could be a bit shorter if it's already in development, and seeing as how they already have the animation style figured out. With that being the case, PAW Patrol 2 will likely hit theaters any time between August 2023 to August 2024.

It can be assumed that the original gang from the first movie will also show up in PAW Patrol 2. The PAW Patrol: The Movie cast of characters includes Will Brisbin as the voice of Ryder, Iain Armitage as Chase, Kingsley Marshall as Marshall, Callum Shoniker as Rocky, Lilly Bartlam as Skye, Keegan Hedley as Rubble, and Shayle Simons as Zuma. The first movie also introduced Liberty, a dachshund voiced by Marsai Martin and Delores, a "grown-up" standard poodle voiced by Kim Kardashian. As for human characters, Ron Pardo will almost certainly return to voice Mayor Humdinger, the PAW Patrol's biggest adversary, as well as Cap'n Turbot, the PAW Patrol's marine biologist friend. Other humans who could return are Yara Shahidi as scientist Kendra Wilson, Randall Park and Dax Shepard as Butch and Ruben, Mayor Humdinger's security guards, Tyler Perry as truck driver Gus, and Jimmy Kimmel as news anchor Marty Muckracker.
The PAW Patrol 2 cast of actors might also see the introduction of pups who joined the team in later seasons on the TV show, as well as their voice actors. Those new pups include Everest (Berkley Silverman), a Siberian husky snow rescue dog, Tracker (Mateo Carnovale), a chihuahua who serves as a jungle rescue pup and is the youngest member of the PAW Patrol, Tuck and Ella (Eamon Hanson and Isabella Leo), two golden retriever siblings called the Mighty Twins, Rex (Luxton Handspiker), a Bernese mountain dog who is a dinosaur expert and the team's first disabled member who uses a wheeled walker to get around, and Wild Cat (Tristan Mammitzsch), the team's first feline member and stunt cyclist. Lastly, there's Robo-Dog, who serves a big vehicle driver and speaks only in barks.

The end of PAW Patrol: The Movie saw Liberty join the team as a full-fledged member and Mayor Humdinger and his Catastrophe Crew arrested and put in jail for their crimes. However, no PAW Patrol adventure would be complete without Mayor Humdinger and his henchmen causing trouble so it's entirely likely that he'll be back for PAW Patrol 2. It's even possible that he'll be elected mayor of another, new city, and his crimes there will cause the pups in that city to contact the PAW Patrol for help and eventually join them as the newest team members. Since it's a theatrical release, it's also possible that PAW Patrol 2 will introduce a brand-new villain for the PAW Patrol to fight instead of Humdinger's bumbling antics. It could even revolve around the new emergency at the waterfront that the PAW Patrol is called in to help with at the end of the first movie. In any case, it's certain PAW Patrol 2 will see the pups saving the day.
