Skyrim Mod That Makes The Game Unplayable Gets Banned

A mod that makes The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim completely unplayable has been banned by modding site, Nexus Mods. As one of the most moddable games out there, there are countless Skyrim mods to change up the gameplay, whether to improve the performance or visuals, or to add new quests, adventures, and even memes. While Skyrim mods often push boundaries, it seems a game-breaking mod is one step too far for Nexus Mods.

The vast open-world of the Bethesda classic makes the game easy and fun to mod, with modders often releasing fresh and exciting new ways for players to explore the world of Skyrim. As one of the largest hubs for modders and downloadable content, Nexus Mods is the first site many think of when searching for Skyrim mods due to its extensive selection. While Nexus Mods hasn't taken issue with the majority of meme mods, including one that replaces dragons with Thomas the Tank Engine and another that renames all Skyrim trolls Tim Allen, there are some boundaries for mod creators.

As spotted by PCGamer, the NoSkyrim mod from creator ThatLittleCommie has been removed from Nexus Mods. The mod prevented Skyrim from working at all, with those who've downloaded it unable to begin a new game. The mod's description states: "With NoSkyrim, instead of being able to start a new game like most skyrim players, you just can't." The modder has taken to Change.org to petition for the mod to be reinstated, stating that Nexus Mods removed the mod "because it purposely buggs [sic] out the game," which is actually its point. As well as a petition, ThatLittleCommie has started the SaveNoSkyrim subreddit, which aims to raise awareness for the cause. The mod may be gone from Nexus Mods, but it's still available to download from NSFW modding website LoversLab.

The subreddit may be a quiet one, but there are those showing their support for ThatLittleCommie and the Skyrim mod. Commenters on Reddit have shared their frustrations at the mod's removal, believing that it stifles modders' creativity. Nexus Mods is known for being a creative hub in which modders can share their visions for Skyrim in almost any capacity. Some Redditors have taken issue with the website's crackdown on NoSkyrim, believing the removal directly contradicts what modding should be about - creative fun and freedom without limits.

Along with the subreddit, the NoSkyrim Change.org petition is slowly gaining traction with over 200 supporters at the time of writing. While it's not clear whether or not Nexus Mods will take note of the backlash over the Skyrim mod, the removal of the mod does spark an interesting debate on how far game mods should go. Those looking to support ThatLittleCommie can do so via Reddit and Change.org.
