90 Day Fiancé: Avery & Omar Talk Islam Misconceptions & Charity Work

Omar Albakour and Avery Mills have had their religion misunderstood throughout their 90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days Journey, but the couple revealed in an exclusive statement that misconceptions about Islam cannot be further from the truth. The duo remains beloved among 90 Day Fiancé fans for their genuine personalities and loving relationship. However, Omar and Avery have also dealt with criticism from people who didn’t understand their religion or relationship.

Young American Avery converted to Islam before connecting with her husband on a Muslim dating app. Viewers initially branded Avery naive for falling for a man in Syria and thinking their relationship could work, but Avery proved her critics wrong. After traveling to Syria to marry Omar, the couple faced a year of physical separation while they awaited word on his US visa approval. Avery and Omar settled down in Dubai last year before Omar’s US visa was finally approved. They have been in the United States since March and are currently living in New Jersey.

Avery has been open about her religious conversion and how it makes her the best version of herself. However, that hasn’t stopped critics from casting judgment. The couple said that western culture commonly misunderstands many things about being Muslim. “They think that women have to be submissive to their husbands while its completely wrong- the women have to be treated gently and compassionately,” the couple explained. “Islam has never stood by any side of gender, actually it glories the position of the feminine in society. It gives the women their complete rights,” they clarified. While Omar initially faced blind accusations of being controlling, many viewers have come to love the couple after seeing their kind and genuine personalities shine through on social media content.

Omar and Avery have retained a considerable social media platform despite ending their reality TV journey after a single season. Unlike many of their fellow 90 Day Fiancé franchise stars, they want to use their platform for good. “We are trying to use our page as a platform for helping other people,” they explained. “We love to help others, as we are all one.” The couple frequently supports charity organizations and fundraisers on their shared Instagram account. One non-profit organization that they work with is Muslim Aid. They clarified that the organization aims to help all humans and not just Muslims. “They have worked on many projects that helped society regardless of the religions,” the couple explained.

While Omar and Avery aren’t the only 90 Day Fiancé cast to use their fame for good, most franchise stars focus on self-promotion rather than helping others. Avery and Omar have retained their popularity among franchise fans because many note they are a rare exception to more recent franchise content. Many viewers think the 90 Day Fiancé franchise has taken a turn for the worse, as drama comes across as over the top and scripted and couples appear more focused on influencer careers than genuine romantic connections. To many franchise fans, Avery and Omar’s 90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days journey is one of the most celebrated, genuine, and healthy romances in the franchise.
