Jessica Batten, star of Love is Blind, gave shocking new details about the series and her relationship with Mark Cuevas after filming. Jessica, one of the most dramatic participants in the series, was involved in a number of scandals throughout the series, becoming a villain in the eyes of fans watching on Netflix. While the first season of the series aired in 2020, the stars of the show have returned for more exclusives in the new series Love is Blind: After the Altar.
Love is Blind, an experimental series, similar to Married at First Sight, challenges couples to find deeper, more meaningful connections based on emotional connections, rather than the physical. Jessica, who was featured on the first season of the series, was dragged through the series for not only her age but also for her involvement with Matt Barnett. Fans of the series were pitted against one another as the series unfolded, some angry at Jessica and others aware of the unreasonable expectations for the relationship to last. While Jessica was seemingly in the wrong, the spinoff seems to suggest a very different narrative.
In her interview with E! News, Jessica was frank about the series, especially about her current opinion of Mark. While filming was tense and emotional, Jessica was plain and simple in her views of Mark and his new relationship, claiming “I’m super, super happy for Mark.” While reality television can often feel like reality for viewers, Jessica explained that it is just the opposite, with the editing team creating a very different narrative. She explained "We knew that we weren't going to work out in the end, so on that day, we were not planning on saying yes. When everything went down...it was a huge shock to me." While Jessica is disappointed in Mark and the way he let her take the blame for much of the drama on the series, quickly moving on to his new family, she says that “life moves on,” seemingly unphased by her past experiences on Love is Blind.
Jessica feels wronged by the series and Mark, but others feel that the show represented Jessica’s behavior. Amber Pike and Matt Barnett, a fellow couple from the series, have spoken very negatively about Jessica, even going as far as to refer to her as “Voldemort.” Amber may be silent on her anger with Jessica, but Jessica has plenty to say about Amber, being civil towards the couple but mentioning that “everyone is scared of Amber.”
It is uncertain who is to blame for the drama in the series. Many fingers point towards Jessica, yet she seems to have theories about each of her co-stars and the ways the Love is Blind cast manipulated the truth for their own benefit, making her face the backlash from fans. While fans may never get the closure or answers they need to be certain about the source of the drama, Jessica certainly seems to be involved in many different situations with cast members ready to accuse her of a variety of concerning behavior.
