Rick & Morty Crosses Over With Indiana Jones in Season 5 Promo Video

A new promo video for Rick and Morty season 5 sees the acclaimed Adult Swim series melding its titular characters with Indiana Jones. The adventure franchise was co-created by George Lucas and Steven Spielberg and centers on Harrison Ford's titular archaeology professor as he seeks mystical artifacts around the globe and frequently crossing paths with competing Nazi and Soviet expeditions. Production on Indiana Jones 5, the final outing for Ford in the franchise, is currently underway and is set to hit theaters in July 2022.

Co-created by star Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, Rick and Morty centers on mad scientist Rick Sanchez as he ropes his teenage grandson into dangerous multiverse adventures, much to the dismay of Rick's timid son-in-law Jerry and conflict of Rick's previously-estranged daughter Beth. The animated series originally found life as Back to the Future parody short from Roiland until Adult Swim partnered he and Harmon together for a full series. Since its 2013 launch, Rick and Morty has been a smash hit for Adult Swim, garnering two Primetime Emmy Awards and a large 70-episode renewal following the conclusion of season 3.

The Indiana Jones crossover video comes as one of the more low-key recreations of a film yet for Rick and Morty season 5's marketing campaign. Since its return, Adult Swim has delivered a multitude of exciting claymation videos featuring the titular duo and other character imagined in various other worlds, with everything from more mainstream fare as Studio Ghibli's My Neighbor Totoro and Godzilla vs. Kong to indie favorites including Hobo with a Shotgun and Ari Aster's Hereditary. Some of these unique crossovers would have made for fun storylines or parodies in actual episodes, but for the time being they at least serve as a fun way to keep audiences invested in the latest batch of episodes.

Even without an actual crossover planned for Indiana Jones or any of the other video parodies, Rick and Morty season 5 has already delivered plenty of exciting homages. Between the Hellraiser parody of episode 5's "Amortycan Grickfitti" to the Captain Planet twist of episode 3's "A Rickconvenient Mort" and Tremors spoof of episode 4's "Rickdependence Spray," the writers room have been delivering on all cylinders this season. Rick and Morty season 5 airs on Adult Swim on Sundays.
