Afterlife of the Party Trailer: Victoria Justice Tries To Get To Heaven

Victoria Justice tries to party her way to heaven in the first official trailer for Netflix's upcoming movie: Afterlife of the Party. Showing no sign of slowing down in 2021, there's a wave of new movies and TV shows coming to Netflix in August and beyond. Written by Carrie Freedle and directed by Stephen Herek, the modern fairy tale centers on Victoria Justice's Cassie. After dying during her birthday week, the social butterfly finds herself on the verge of going to hell. With the help of a guardian angel, however, Cassie is given a chance to fix her mistakes and earn her way into "the big VIP room in the sky."

The first official trailer has now been released by Netflix. The footage gives viewers a taste of Cassie's selfish, wild child days and the embarrassing nature of her death. Equally, with more than a few shades of The Good Place and Bryan Fuller's Dead Like Me, Cassie is seen reckoning with her quirky new normal and even quirkier afterlife figures. Blessed with a range of new abilities (which unfortunately don't include talking to animals), she attempts to make amends with those she left behind. And she does so in the only way she knows how: with makeovers and dance parties — to comedic and dramatic effect. Check out the trailer below:

The official Afterlife of the Party synopsis reads: Party planner and social butterfly Cassie (Victoria Justice) is on top of the world, but a freak accident during her 25th birthday extravaganza brings it all crashing down - literally. When she finds herself in the waiting room of the afterlife, Cassie meets Val, her guardian angel, who explains that she has five days as an angel-in-training to make things right on Earth with the people who meant the most to her.

As well as Victoria Justice as Cassie, Afterlife of the Party stars Midori Francis as her best friend Lisa and Robyn Scott as Val. The rest of the cast is rounded out by Adam Garcia, Timothy Renouf, Gloria Garcia, Myfanwy Waring, and Spencer Sutherland. Described as a modern testament to the power of female friendship, the magic of a perfect pop song, and the importance of living and loving each day like it’s your last, Afterlife of the Party is due to be released as a new Netflix original movie on September 2, 2021.
