Eternals Star Barry Keoghan Hospitalized After Assault in Ireland

Eternals star Barry Keoghan was hospitalized after he was reportedly found to be the victim of an assault in Galway, Ireland. The 28-year-old Irish actor will star as Druig in the upcoming Marvel film, due for release in November. He joins a star-studded cast that includes Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Salma Hayek, Gemma Chan, Kumail Nanjiani, Kit Harington, and many more.

A star of British and Irish television and film from his teenage years, Keoghan first gained international attention for his role in 2017's The Killing of a Sacred Deer, which he starred in alongside Nicole Kidman and Colin Farrell. That same year, the Dublin-born actor landed a major role in Christopher Nolan's World War II epic, Dunkirk, as a teenage boy who joins the effort of British civilians using their fishing boats to cross the English Channel and evacuate troops from the doomed Dunkirk beaches. Most recently, the actor appeared as Scavenger in David Lowery's The Green Knight. Keoghan is also set to feature in Matt Reeves' upcoming The Batman as a Gotham city police officer, Stanley Merkel.

According to reporting from Sunday World, Keoghan was found outside Galway's G Hotel in the early hours of Sunday, August 15 with serious facial injuries. Galway police were alerted to the situation when the actor was seen walking outside the hotel. He was then taken by ambulance to Galway University Hospital where he was treated for his injuries, including cuts to his face, and then released. According to police, no arrests have yet been made in connection with the supposed attack, and Keoghan's injuries were non life-threatening.

Keoghan was reportedly filming for Martin McDonagh's The Banshees of Inisherin, which will star Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, in Galway over the weekend when he was assaulted. Several locals had spotted the Eternals star around the city before the incident occurred, including at a local bar on the night of the assault. Keoghan is well-known for visiting local pubs and being friendly with residents, and is currently the face of Guinness' "welcome back to the pubs" TV advertising campaign. Keoghan has apparently decided not to make an official complaint in relation to the matter.

A representative for Keoghan also declined to comment on the situation. Understandably, the actor seems to want to keep the horrible incident private and out of the media. Whatever occurred, it is hoped that he fully recovers from his injuries and gets well as soon as possible.
