While Iron Man wasn't exactly thrilled with the Z-list team of heroes he was forced to gather together to defeat Korvac, the makeshift band of heroes are now doing what Tony can't, having lost faith in their absent leader. In a preview for Iron Man #11, on sale in print and digital August 18, readers learn that the eclectic team Iron Man brought together are now on their own, as Iron Man wishes to eke out a simple life on a mysterious world.
Korvac has returned, more powerful than ever, and he has a new mission: to ascend to godhood and make the universe a better place by exterminating all free will. Korvac has built an army of acolytes made up of supervillains, intending to attain supreme power by raiding Galactus' ship, the Taa II. To stop Korvac, Iron Man assembled a team of Z-list heroes, including Gargoyle, Frog-Man, Scarlet Spider, Misty Knight, and the mutant Halcyon, but Iron Man was mysteriously teleported to a mysterious world inhabited by individuals from across the universe and overseen by the former villain Stilt-Man. On this planet, Iron Man has found meaning and a purpose, but his team are still out in space, trailing Korvac, and in Iron Man #11, they reveal they intend to continue the mission without him. The issue is written by Christopher Cantwell, with art by Angel Unzueta, colors by Frank D’Armata and letters by Joe Caramagna.
The preview opens with Hellcat, via holographic projection, telling Iron Man that Korvac is still out there, and he must return to help them. Iron Man tells Hellcat to wait on him, but she informs him that the team he put together have decided to take on Korvac without Iron Man. Back on their spaceship, Hellcat tells the team that they are on their own; the Scarlet Spider suggests going to find Tony, but Hellcat responds saying that due to deactivating the device regulating his morphine intake (a new feature of his suit following injuries sustained against Korvac), he is no shape to lead the team, leaving them to save the universe.
The team Iron Man has put together is not a powerful one by any stretch, and yet they are about to go up against one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe. Iron Man, the strongest member of the group, has all but abandoned them, leaving them at the mercy of the deranged and god-like Koravc. While Hellcat recently upgraded her psionic powers, Gargoyle and Scarlet Spider are in over their heads, Frog-Man has no powers, Halcyon has the mutant ability to always remain calm, and Misty Knight and War Machine's technology pales in comparison to Korvac, even before factoring in his superpowered minions.
Readers must wait until August 18 to see if Iron Man can win the faith of his teammates back, but it's not looking good for Tony, whose sense of rejection by Earth has made his dangerous new home surprisingly appealing, Attack on Titan-style giant cannibal robots and all. Iron Man needs his new team as much as they need him, but with the gulf of space between them and a ticking clock before Korvac strikes, it will take a miracle to reunite the heroes before it's too late.
