Josh Goldstein from Love Island USA recently left the third season of the show after finding out about the tragic death of his sister, Lindsey Goldstein. The 24-year-old was one of the original twelve cast members this season. Goldstein entered the show claiming to be a "nice guy" and proved himself to be just that during his time on the CBS reality dating show.
The Massachusetts native first coupled up with Shannon St. Claire on the first episode of Love Island and have stayed a couple throughout the duration of the show. However, the couple hit a roadblock when newcomer Aimee Flores entered the villa. Goldstein kissed Flores during a group challenge in which St. Claire did not react well to the smooch. St. Claire told Goldstein that he "made her look stupid" but the former college athlete asked her for another chance and he has since made up for his mistake. After a one-on-one ziplining date, the two took the next step in their relationship by becoming exclusive. Goldstein shocked St. Claire by asking her to be his girlfriend. Without any hesitation, she said yes.
Goldstein and St. Claire left Love Island after he was told that his sister, Lindsey, passed away on August 4. The Sun reported that the cause of her death is unknown. Goldstein broke the news to the fellow islanders while holding hands with his girlfriend. "Unfortunately, my sister passed away last night," Goldstein said. He then revealed that St. Claire would be leaving with him. Before his departure, he told the cast, "I just need to be home with my family right now to support them. I just want to let you guys know that I'm so grateful to have met all of you, consider you all my best friends." Goldstein added, "We're going to see each other again. This isn't it."
The baseball player revealed that his sister is the reason he found love on the show. During a confessional, Goldstein praised his late sister and said she was an "unbelievable person." After having an emotional moment he said, "She was the reason I'm here, the reason I found Shannon and met all you guys. It's unexpected, but she lived an unbelievable life."
The Love Island USA Twitter account paid tribute to Lindsey tweeting, "We send our love and condolences to Josh and his family from all of us at Love Island.❤️" Although Lindsey's cause of death is unknown, officials are moving forward with toxicology testing.
