Angela Deem has been earning viewer fan criticism for her appearance on 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? and many fans have voiced that they are done with seeing the grandmother on TLC. When Angela first appeared with her Nigerian partner Michael Ilesanmi, some viewers were fascinated by her crass and unapologetic behavior. However, Angela’s treatment of Michael has been labeled abusive by concerned viewers who can no longer tolerate her presence in the 90 Day Fiancé franchise.
Season 6 of Happily Ever After features many franchise couples in unhappy situations, including Angela and Michael. With Michael still in Nigeria awaiting his U.S. visa approval, Angela went through with extensive and expensive weight loss procedures that her husband disapproved of. The brash meemaw then blamed her husband for all of her problems, including her lonely recovery and her decades-long smoking addiction. She continues to scream at her husband on the phone in a way that many audiences believe is verbal abuse. Angela even tried to get someone to hack Michael’s phone despite this being illegal. The majority of viewers are not amused by Angela’s bad behavior and have called out both Angela and TLC.
One viewer took to Reddit to call Angela out in a post titled, “Angela and dignity.” The user questioned if Angela was acting or showing her real personality and wrote, “Is the price she’s getting paid worth the price she’s paying with Michael and degrading him, abusing him, and being a general BEAST to everyone she encountered in all these seasons worth it?” They added that Angela needed to be permanently stripped of her platform. “It’s not fun or funny or even entertaining to watch a decent black man or ANY man get accused and abused over and over for views. Domestic violence is not and should not be entertainment fodder,” the user wrote before calling out TLC. The user also noted that Angela’s treatment of Michael was harmful to show and did not help anyone.
Unfortunately, viewers feared that Angela will not be easy to get rid of as she appears to have a steady future on TLC. “TLC is all about the green. They're banking on Mykul getting his Visa, come to the US and get humiliated and abused over and over every Sunday just to get higher ratings,” one commenter expressed. Many fans urged TLC to reconsider what they were airing. “100% agree with OP, this is not entertainment. As I said before, blame that vermin company TLC for giving her a platform to spill her vile, nasty behavior,” another commenter wrote. Others brought up more disturbing complaints against Angela. “Anndddd one of her daughters is a convicted pedophile living with her and directly profiting from TLC. Cancel them all,” one concerned commenter wrote.
Angela’s daughter Scottie Deem was spotted in a video and revealed to be living with Angela and her many young grandchildren despite Scottie having a child molestation conviction. Many viewers are highly concerned about Angela’s morals and her behavior toward other people, especially Michael. Angela's behavior has reached the point when many viewers are considering not watching new episodes of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? because it is no longer enjoyable due to the problematic behavior glorified on screen.
