Bachelor alum Blake Horstmann opened up about why he chose not to go to Bachelor In Paradise, and no, it's not because of Becca Kufrin. Fans were curious to see if Horstmann was going to be one of the standout alums to return to the beach this summer since he made quite a splash last season. During season 6, Horstmann was involved in a Stagecoach love triangle with Caelynn Miller-Keyes and Kristina Schulman before filming that ended up making its way to Bachelor In Paradise. Things turned ugly and led to Horstmann posting private messages between himself and Miller-Keyes.
Horstmann wasn't always in the center of drama during his time on the franchise's shows. When he competed for Bachelorette alum, Becca Kufrin's heart during season 14 of The Bachelorette, he was a fan favorite. The 32-year-old was known for his sweet and romantic gestures toward Kufrin but left the show broken-hearted. In the finale, Kufrin admitted she fell in love with Horstmann but ended up accepting Garret Yrigoyen's proposal. Kufrin and Horstmann's breakup was one of the most heartbreaking ones in the history of the show.
Although Horstmann has yet to find love, he has decided not to return to Bachelor In Paradise for the well awaited upcoming season. In a Q&A hosted on his Instagram story, a fan asked why he didn't return to paradise. The Bachelorette alum revealed that he was in the process of returning and even went through pre-casting testing, but it just didn't feel right. In a lengthy response, he said, "I am in a good place in my life. Personally, professionally and mentally. I didn’t want to go back into an environment that breeds toxicity and emotional abuse." Between getting his heart broke on The Bachelorette to a vicious never-ending feud on Bachelor In Paradise, fans saw Horstmann during some of his most vulnerable moments.

In an interview with US Weekly, Horstmann said the Bachelor franchise is “such a crazy environment." He revealed that contestants are forced to form a relationship with their producers, however, the producers can't make them do anything that they are not willing to do or say. In a continuation of his Q&A answer, Horstmann said, "I didn’t want to put my life in the hands of people that don’t really have your best interest in mind. It’s like having a coach who pushes you to do the wrong things.” Even though he personally decided to end his time in the bachelor world, Horstmann doesn't discourage people to go on the show. In response to another fan, he said, "You can go have an amazing time and everything that comes with that or you can have a horrible time and be f****d up for life. At this point it’s no secret what this show is capable of. Do your research and know what you are getting into."
Bachelor Nation will have to say goodbye to their hopes of a possible romantic rekindling between Horstmann and Kufrin. It's too bad that viewers won't be able to see the two in action in the upcoming season of Bachelor In Paradise. The two have been spotted out together and even had some flirty exchanges following Kufrin's breakup with ex-fiance Garrett Yrigoyen. Horstmann will be missed but putting his mental health before the show is yet another reason why fans love him.
