Genshin Impact's 2.0 Housing & Gardening Changes Explained

Genshin Impact 2.0 is releasing on July 21, 2021. The update includes a massive amount of content with new enemies to fight, a new region to explore, puzzles to solve, new powers, and new storylines. The Inazuma islands are sure to be a great experience that fans have been expecting for a while now, especially with the Traveler gaining the Electro ability. Along with the Inazuma islands, Genshin Impact’s Serenitea Pot housing system is also obtaining new systems.

The new system coming to housing is gardening. Players can now enter their Teapot homes with the ability to plant various types of plots, each containing specific plants that can only be placed within those specific soils. There’s also a new item called the Sub-Space Waypoint that will allow players to teleport around their housing plots; however, having too many waypoints placed will have a chance to alter how Tubby’s upkeep of the house will change. Tree’s may fly around, housing items will move places, and the mountains and rocks may begin to swirl.

To first begin gardening, players will have to complete a world quest called “The Art of Horticulture” by reaching Reputation level 3 in Inazuma. Once this is completed, players will be allowed to use the Seed Dispensary. When the Dispensary is equipped, it will let players gather the seeds of plants from around Mondstadt, Liyue, and Inazuma. Once the player has gathered enough seeds, they’ll be able to plant them in the chosen plot. Seeds can also be purchased with Realm Currency if players have obtained those seeds with the Seed Dispensary at least one time.

Once the player has acquired the seeds that they’re looking to plant, they’ll have to enter their home inside the Serenitea Pot and select the required plot for the specific seed. There are three types of plots to be purchased, each with its own set of plants according to miHoYo:

  • Jade Field: Radish, Mint, Carrots, Jeuyun Chili, Valberry, Mushroom, Sweet Flower, and Small Lamp Grass.
  • Luxuriant Glebe: Windwheel Aster, Glaze Lily, Violetgrass, a new plant from Inazuma, Silk Flower, Qingxin, and Cecelia.
  • Orderly Meadow: Calla Lily, a new plant from Inazuma, Sea Ganoderma, Snapdragon, Lotus Head, and Horsetail.

Each plot can hold up to four of the seeds within its list and there is no set number as to how many plots a player can have in their home if they don’t go over the load limit. While some players may have each house set up to their liking, it may be best for players to have a single Realm Style just for gardening, that way they can utilize the new system to its fullest without having to travel to three different Realms in Genshin Impact to harvest all their plants.

Unfortunately, the times for growing a single plant can take two to three days, which is substantially longer than it takes for natural resources to regrow around the in-game world. However, this lengthy amount of time does seem somewhat fair seeing as all the plants needed would be in the same spot, reducing the amount of time running around to gather various materials. This may be subject to change in future Genshin Impact updates, however.

While there is no word yet about housing items, it may be safe to assume that players will be able to find new housing recipes that contain items seen around the Inazuma nation. Maybe they'll add an object like the Statue of Seven, which can heal a whole party so players don't need to resort to the Jean Vampire method for group healing. Although this seems likely, players will have to wait until Genshin Impact 2.0 releases to know for sure.
