miHoYo recently announced its first collaboration character for Genshin Impact. On the company's social media platforms, Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn was revealed. She will be a free 5-star playable character given to gamers during Phase 1 and 2 of Genshin Impact's Version 2.2 update. The sudden announcement received mixed reactions from fans. Despite audience response, a confirmed collaboration event could mean more crossovers in the future.
Collaboration events are great business strategies for video game companies. Games like Fortnite had plenty of success with crossovers. miHoYo's own Honkai Impact 3rd recently had a collab with Neon Genesis Evangelion. Crossovers between different franchises can attract new gamers and give current players a way to enjoy different series. Avatar: The Last Air Bender has a lot of similarities to Genshin Impact and could be a collaboration miHoYo should consider.
Avatar: The Last Air Bender has a strong focus on the four natural elements of the world. Elemental attacks are also a core gameplay mechanic in Genshin Impact, which makes characters from the Avatar series a natural fit into the game's setting. miHoYo can turn many members of the main cast from Avatar into promotional Banner characters.

Aang is an Air Bender in Avatar and could become a playable Anemo character in Genshin Impact. miHoYo could even be more creative and turn Aang into a multi-elemental user similar to the Traveler. Other fan favorites like Toph Beifong could be a Geo utility character in the game thanks to her Earth bending. Katara was a powerful healer in the show; therefore, she could have a similar role as Barbara from Genshin Impact. Prince Zuko from the Fire Nation would make an excellent Pyro damage dealer due to his aggressive fighting style.
The setting of Avatar: The Last Air Bender is also similar to Genshin Impact. Both series take place during ancient times within a fantasy world where creatures such as dragons roam free. Avatar also has separate nations based on the elements. miHoYo could create a non-canon story where players can travel across the different regions within Avatar. Fans of the show would enjoy the nostalgia of roaming around The Fire Nation Capital or exploring Ba Sing Se, while gamers unfamiliar with Avatar may potentially become interested in the series.
The time and energy miHoYo would have to put into creating such a large-scale event would be tremendous. However, a combination of memorable characters from Avatar: The Last Air Bender with Genshin Impact's gameplay could lead to an incredible experience for gamers. The success of crossover characters like Aloy could lead to miHoYo collaborating with many different franchises in the future. Whether the company decides to continue collab events after the current one is uncertain, but fans of Genshin Impact can always look forward to the possibility of seeing characters from different series joining the game.
