Darkhawk Rises as Marvel's New Iron Hero in Comic Sneak Peak

Warning! Potential spoilers for Darkhawk #1 by Marvel Comics below

Marvel's new Darkhawk rises in a brand new preview for the latest iteration of the popular 90s hero. After killing off the original armored hero earlier this year, Marvel Comics is set to debut a new Darkhawk, who will star in his own self-titled series. In the first look at the series, a young man uses an amulet to transform into Darkhawk after an explosion forces him into action.

In 1991, Marvel Comics debuted Darkhawk in Darkhawk #1 by Tom DeFalco and Mike Manley. The comic starred Christopher Powell, who used a strange amulet to transform into the armored hero. Darkhawk had many abilities derived from the android armor, including powerful energy blasts, enhanced strength, and wings to fly. Despite being a relatively new hero, Darkhawk has been a part of several superteams, including the New Warriors, Secret Defenders, and West Coast Avengers. Marvel Comics decided to reintroduce a new hero behind the armor for the newest series, killing off Powell in the one-shot, Darkhawk: Heart of the Hawk #1.

In a brand new preview for Darkhawk #1 by Kyle Higgins and Juanan Ramirez, a young man named Connor Young begins his journey as Darkhawk. Marvel's synopsis for the series reveals Young is a basketball star who is forced to step away from his promising future after a shocking medical diagnosis. Young will discover the amulet Powell sent into null space as he tries to rediscover who he is and what he's meant to do after his promising future is taken away from him.

After an explosion causes chaos, Young jumps into hero mode, offering to help save a construction worker who's trapped under debris. However, when he offers them help, something (possibly his medical issue) makes him fall to his knees, as another explosion knocks him to the ground. Shaken up and on his back, Young notices the amulet and reaches out to it - transforming into the newest version of Darkhawk.

Young's first transformation into Darkhawk is revealed as the new hero gets an updated costume.

Darkhawk might not be the most popular hero these days, so reintroducing him to new audiences with a new face behind the android armor makes a lot of sense. Higgins and Ramirez are incredibly talented creators who can showcase what a new Darkhawk can be in modern Marvel Comics stories. For readers wanting to see Young's Darkhawk in action, Darkhawk #1 comes to comic book stores on Wednesday.
