Fortnite May Be Adding The Suicide Squad Member Peacemaker, Per Rumor

Popular battle royale game Fortnite and the latest entry in the DCEU, The Suicide Squad, might be crossing over again soon, as rumors suggest that John Cena's character Peacemaker could come to the game in the future. This would mark the second member of The Suicide Squad to hit the world of Fortnite after Bloodsport was added to the game earlier this year.

Fortnite is no stranger to crossovers with fictional characters from within the DC movie and comic universe. Iconic characters like Batman, the Joker, Aquaman, Catwoman, Green Arrow, and The Flash have all been featured as playable skins in the past. Harley Quinn, a member of The Suicide Squad has also been added as a playable skin, however, her version is modeled after the original Suicide Squad movie from 2016. As of yet, the version of Harley that was seen in The Suicide Squad has not come to Fortnite yet. The collaboration between DC and Fortnite has grown so rich that new comics have come out that were inspired by events in the game, and new Fortnite characters have even crossed into DC comics. Another skin based on this partnership was almost inevitable.

And, according to Fortnite rumor source Shiina, an upcoming skin would be based on The Suicide Squad character, Peacemaker. The rumor comes from a Reddit user who previously leaked information regarding a Bloodsport skin, which did ultimately come to fruition. Shiina does note that Peacemaker is scheduled to premiere in his own show on HBO Max in January, therefore speculating that the skin might not be released until then to coincide with the show's premiere.

This makes a good deal of sense, especially following the pattern DC established previously when it came to introducing another member of The Suicide Squad. Bloodsport made his debut in Fortnite back on August 3, 2021, just three days before The Suicide Squad was released in the United States. Although the Peacemaker series has no confirmed release date, it is currently set to premiere in January 2022, so this would be a logical time to expect the skin to release.

Although many fans may look at the timing of such a release cynically, as simply a marketing ploy, it is undoubtedly beneficial to Fortnite and Epic Games as well. The Suicide Squad has been a major release and the DCEU movies are still wildly popular. Given how successful Fortnite and DC have been in past collaborations, it makes sense for their next big release to be around an important event, in order to boost maximum visibility. It may well end up being a massive win for both parties.
