Pokémon BDSP: How To Find (& Catch) Dratini | Screen Rant

In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, players can find and catch a Dratini and evolve it into the legendary Dragon and Flying-type, Dragonite. Dratini and its evolved forms are the original Dragon-type Pokémon, the only three when Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green first launched. Since that time, trainers in every Pokémon game have looked forward to finding and catching a Dratini in hopes of adding a Dragonite to their team.

Although Dragonite is still one of the most powerful Pokémon available in the Sinnoh region, it now faces a new threat with the addition of Fairy-type Pokémon in BDSP. Fairy-type Pokémon were first introduced in Generation VI of Pokémon. Two of their strongest features are their immunity from Dragon-type attacks and 2x damage output to Dragon-type Pokémon. Any trainers who are eager to add a Dragonite to their team should be prepared to struggle against Fairy-type Pokémon if they don't have a Poison or Steel-type in their party as well.

Dratini is one of the many Pokémon trainers can find in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, having no exclusivity for either version. However, before trainers can find a Dratini, they will still need to get the National Dex in Pokémon BDSP before finding the Dragon-type. Afterward, players can use the Super Rod in Mount Coronet to catch a Dratini between levels 15 and 20. Additionally, players may be lucky enough to find a Dragonair, the evolved form of Dratini, by using the same method. Finally, thanks to the quality of life improvements in the remakes, players can also find Dratini elsewhere in Sinnoh at a much higher level.

Players can also find and catch Dratini within the Foutainspring Cave, located inside the Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl Grand Underground. The Grand Underground is filled with additional rare Pokémon after trainers acquire the National Dex, many of which are at a greater level than found in the original games. For example, Dratini can be found in Pokémon BDSP's Grand Underground above level 55, making it a perfect catch for evolution because it begins evolving into Dragonair at level 30, and Dragonair begins evolving into Dragonite at level 55.

Dragonite has two of the best abilities in Pokémon, namely Inner Focus and Multiscale. Inner Focus prevents Dragonite from flinching in battle from moves like Headbutt or Air Slash, while Multiscale reduces the damage Dragonite will take from any move when its HP is full. Multiscale is Dragonite's Hidden Ability, and players can get a Dragonite with its Hidden Ability by using an Ability Patch.
