The Poison Barb is a valuable item in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl as it can provide these Poison-type Pokémon with a bonus inside or outside of battle. The Poison Barb can boost attack, HP, or speed for Poison-type Pokémon members of a trainer's team. Additionally, several fan-favorites like Tentacruel, Toxicroak, and Dapion benefit from having the Poison Barb held item.
The Poison Barb is a small, poisonous barb that boosts the power of Poison-type Pokémon regardless of whether the move is a physical or special attack. Poison-type trainers and their Pokémon are strongest in competitive battles against Fairy and Grass-type Pokémon. However, it could also be helpful during challenging Gym Leader battles like with Gardenia, a boss battle that focuses mainly on using Grass-type Pokémon. While they do well against these types, Poison-types are damaged mostly by Ground and Psychic-type attacks.
Fortunately, there are two different ways to get to Poison Barb in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. First, players can find one on Route 206; if players go to the Berry patch and continue going north, the Poison Barb will be located in the corner. If players are looking for more Poison Barbs, they can find them by capturing a few different Pokémon.

Trainers can find a Poison Barb being held by wild Pokémon that can either be captured or use the TM Thief to steal it from them. However, it only has a 5% chance to be held by the following Pokémon.
- Beedrill
- Tentacool
- Tentacruel
- Qwilfish
- Roselia
- Budew
- Roserade
- Vespiquen
- Skorupi
- Drapion
It's vital to mention that Pokémon like Beedrill will only spawn in Pokémon Shining Pearl, making it more challenging to obtain the item for Brilliant Diamond players. While these chances are slim, this is the best way for players to get multiple Poison Barbs at a time. It's fairly common to want to collect duplicate versions of Held Items to avoid constantly switching around Pokémon holding different items. Putting Poison Barb on a Toxicroak with Poison Jab can be a dangerous combination against trainers who use Fairy and Grass-type Pokémon.
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl are available now on Nintendo Switch.
