Hawkeye Already Confirmed How Powerful Kingpin Will Be

Warning: SPOILERS for Hawkeye episode 3.

Hawkeye is teasing Kingpin's arrival in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the Disney+ show already confirmed how powerful the character would be. Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) just wanted to spend the Christmas season with his kids in New York in Hawkeye. However, after Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) takes on criminals while wearing Hawkeye's old Ronin outfit, Barton cancels his holiday plans. Not wanting Bishop to suffer for his past transgressions, Barton attempts to convince his old enemies, the Tracksuit Mafia, that the MCU's new arrow-slinging hero has nothing to do with Ronin. But that's easier said than done.

In Hawkeye episode 3, the series humanizes the Tracksuit Mafia by introducing Alaqua Cox's Maya Lopez. The Deaf character is a skilled fighter and can mimic others' movements exactly, which becomes an asset as a Tracksuit Mafia leader. However, she also has a dark history with Hawkeye's Ronin. After Thanos' (Josh Brolin) deadly finger snap, Ronin went on a villain-killing spree, and during his tirade, he killed Lopez's father. She witnessed the attack and is now out for revenge.

Besides introducing audiences to Lopez, Hawkeye episode 3 also teases Kingpin's power. During the episode, Hawkeye mentions that there's someone above Lopez in the Tracksuit Mafia hierarchy, and an earlier moment in the episode teases the character. In a flashback to Lopez's childhood, her father tells her that her "uncle" will bring her home from her martial arts practice. The episode doesn't reveal the mysterious uncle's face, but his build, clothes, and laugh are reminiscent of Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk/Kingpin. Beyond that, previous trailers show Bishop and Barton will be taking on an "Avengers-level" threat in Hawkeye. With this in mind, it seems Kingpin could be more powerful than ever.

With all signs pointing to Kingpin being the big bad of the series, he's likely the "Avengers-level" threat in question. Netflix's canceled Daredevil already introduced D'Onofrio's Kingpin to audiences, showing him to be a powerful villain who wants to control New York City no matter the cost. That often meant being at odds with Matt Murdock's (Charlie Cox) Daredevil. However, it appears the MCU is rolling out an upgraded version of Wilson Fisk. With the character possibly becoming an "Avengers-level" threat in Hawkeye, it's clear the MCU's Kingpin will put his Daredevil antics to shame.

Vaguely teasing future characters is nothing new for Marvel's Disney+ shows. For instance, Loki teased how powerful Blade (Mahershala Ali) would be in Marvel's films, with Owen Wilson's Mobius mentioning that vampires are amongst the most powerful creatures in the MCU. Hawkeye does the same with Kingpin. When it comes to the character's strengths, the series has set him up perfectly. By mentioning that there's a character over Lopez in the organization and saying Bishop and Barton deal with an "Avengers-level" threat, the MCU teases that Kingpin will be immensely powerful without ever spelling it out.
