Massages are a helpful tool in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl for players to find. As players continue their adventures in the Sinnoh region, they may come across Pokémon that can only evolve if they have a max friendship stat. Each Pokémon has a hidden measurement within them that shows the bond between a trainer and its Pokémon. There are tons of different things that can influence a Pokémon's friendship with their trainer. Although, players looking to complete their National Dex will need to get every friendship evolution Pokémon available. Fortunately, one of the ways for players to build their friendship with their Pokémon is by giving them massages.
Small features like massages allow players different ways to build relationships with their Pokémon. However, players will need to wait until they unlock access to Veilstone City. This area is in the eastern part of Sinnoh and features a Gym Leader and the headquarters of Team Galactic. This region is also where players can get massages for their Pokémon, which in turn raises the friendship level of a Pokémon.
To get a message in Pokémon BDSP, players will need to visit the Massage Girl in Veilstone City. She can be found in the southwest part of town near the house that is closest to the Gym. Speak with her, and she will offer to give a massage to one Pokémon at the player's party. However, she will also only provide the player's Pokémon a massage once per day, and trainers will need to return later to get another one. Due to this reason, trainers should focus on raising the friendship of a handful of Pokémon.
As players reach other sections of Sinnoh, they will come across the chance to travel to Iron Island. In this area, players will have an opportunity to find and capture a Riolu, a Pokémon that can only evolve through max friendship. These are all the rest of Pokémon in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl that require max friendship level to evolve:
- Budew evolves into Roselia.
- Golbat evolves into Crobat.
- Buneary evolves into Lopunny.
- Chingling evolves into Chimecho.
- Chansey evolves into Blissey.
- Cleffa evolves into Clefairy.
- Pichu evolves into Pikachu.
- Muchlax evolves into Snorlax.
- Riolu evolves into Lucario.
- Azurill evolves into Marill.
- Eevee evolves into Espeon during the day.
- Eevee evolves into Umbreon during the night.
- Togepi evolves into Togetic.
Players can also walk with their Pokémon, let them win battles, feed them Poffins, and give them the Soothe Bell to raise the friendship level. Unfortunately, it can take a while since there is no official way to track it without the Friendship Checker Pokétch app. Massages are just one of the several different ways to get the job done.
